What about using a free, real men OS?

category: general [glöplog]
Well, i i always thought the scene is about people who know how to deal with a computer and
using it for very cool things, about hackers who squeeze every bit out of a routine, about people
who like to have a fukkn cool community around them, about ... ... ...

(When i write ... ... ... just insert your own points...)

So, lets face it: Why do most of you use this crappy Wintendo OS for your Stuff, dealing with bloat,
viruses, bugs who do not get fixed, a fully illogical concept, no real and caring community but a
concern who wants to make money ... ... ... when you can have no stress and more fun with a free OS?

I know that there exist some techical arguments against lets say Linux, like the opinion that
distributions change to fast their libs so a production will not run after some time, or that it is harder
to program some stuff on it as doing it under Wintendo ... ... ...

Well, i think for every opinion against Linux outthere, there is also a solution because its not the
technical limitedness of Linux but the ignorance of the users... And you can always ask too...

There are masses of good libraries exsiting as Free Software, running on Platforms like Linux, so
why don`t i see more prductions on this platform... Seeing more kool demo-shocks on linux would
also encourage more users to use it...

I know, its hard to begin with this stuff, especially when you are brain-fukked from using wintendo
some years, i also was scared when i used it the first six months or so some years ago... One of
the main points at this is simply, that nobody really wants to know how the stuff works and do not
want to read some documentation, which is mostly really good... They all just want to use their
computer like a calculator, just turn it on and it has to function... Well, when i was active in the
scene about 10-15 years ago (as a swapper "only", though), we only had our "crappy" machines
with almost no documentation and we had to figure it out, how it works... So i ask you, where is
the Spirit gone??? I mean, there are plenty of good prods on weird hardware, but what about the
machine we all use the most?

For those of you, who are willing to try some real-man (and woman) OS, but are already a bit
scared or almost too brain-fukked fom using wintendo yet to try it out, i advise to read the following
from beginning to the end, just to understand what its all about:

For the englishians:
http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm

For the germans:
http://www.felix-schwarz.name/files/opensource/articles/Linux_ist_nicht_Windows/

I think i will try to learn some C/SDL/OGL coding the next time, maybe aalib too :)

Well, what i want to hear, or what i wish to hear :) from you, are some arguments and opinions
against using a real OS...

All operating systems are tools of oppression.

Using a real OS is cheap.

_-__-__-__-_-_-_: This is one of the signs of the brain-fukk i wrote about ;)

Here, on my real men OS, there is no oppression, there is the community...

Your attempt to bend people's minds in favor of linux is already a form of oppression.

Well, real men has (girl)friends, so they don't need an OS from the 70s to keep 'em occupied... Real men likes to get things done, not make'em difficult...
So keep preaching the no-life types, they might be interested... I've heard linux is better than masturbation, as god kills no kitties when you use linux...

hitchhikr: Just questions, ok :) And i did not wrote about linux only, but about
the whole world of free software, neither try to bend peoples minds...

Hey its all yours, so i just wanted to get some real opinions, nothing more...
And i had some arguments, nothing more...

"fucking linux fascists"
...
fukking ms faggots
^^ so we are already trolling here, whats comin next? ;-)

I have to admit that i have already a windows installation on a spare partition,
just to play ground control II from time to time which is a fukking great game,
and to watch demos, so nobody can claim i am an os fascist ;-)

FooLman: Well, my GF likes linux, she likes the idea of real freedom and she
uses it for a long time too, maybe because all the small games women like
exist there too, you know how they are :)

Linux is not difficult too, and you get things done very well... But to understand
this, one should read the sites i posted above...

Well, i did not attempt to troll here, so until there are some real arguments
or opinions, i think will not write this further...

it is fascism alright. I've yet to come across a linux freak that doesn't look down upon people using windows for being 'idiots, don't know shit about computers, ms puppets' and the usual bullshit.

In reality, all the arguments about viruses and bugs and no "fun" with windows just don't cut it any more. Each one has a different idea of what "fun" is. Also If you want to find BUGS, look at the linux ATI "Drivers" for a start and then come here to preach.

Navis: Interesting point... Well i think you have found one these "freaks" :-)
I use Windows too, it has its advantages and disadvantages like every other
system and yes, linux has disadvantages too... And i never said here that
windows users are idiots but its fact that there are alternatives... I use linux
for all my daily work, browsing the internet, programming and so on... And i
use windows when i want to play some of the games which are not already
ported, to watch some demos or make some music... So maybe i am half
an idiot, if i would be one of these fascists ;-)

When i wrote this here, i didn`t had the opinion that all windows users are
idiots, thats just not reality... It was just my personal opinion i have after
using a free os as my main os for several years, and i wanted to share it
with you and maybe get some opinions... It is just the point, that i have found
out that i can live better with a free os since it means much less stress for me
and i wanted to get some opinions about this and what you do think about...

I know that the ATi drivers in linux suck, but i know too that its only the fault of
ATI, not the linux devs... So ATI must get some work done to make them
better... I use nVidia, there the drivers are way better and i do not have any
bugs here... Although its bad in general that these vendors do not open their
specifications to let others contribute too, that would be way better... But its
neither the linux devs fault or a linux bug...

I fully agree with you, Navis, but i have also to say that i did not mean it this
way when i wrote here...

Erm, the title of the topic itself is a gross attempt of manipulation to begin with.

If your humour consists of taking all the shitty zealotry behaviour from linux hardliners and copying that 100% and then complaining why nobody understands your subtle irony, I'd call that retarded instead of wicked. Same as some gamer communicating only with terms like "lol" "wtf" "!!!11" "stfu" and then claiming he's only doing this to make fun of the others. Yeah, RIGHT.

Sorry, but as honest your attempt at impr0ving our manh00d was, you blew it.

what about the new XGL user interface
BB Image
added on the 2006-03-27 11:35:12 by d0DgE d0DgE
waffle: Yes it is... There is plenty of good software, gui concepts and good
tools made by the community... And even if windows works perfectly, its nice
to see what others do and how they do it, and then to try it... Maybe it has
something one miss under windows, but one can only try alternatives to find
it out... On linux, you can have exactly the desktop and system you ever
imagined or wanted, that was the point for me when i switched to. There are
just no limits...

kb_: Well, it just wasn't meant like this... And i did not complain about nobody
understanding me, i just explained it... And i know that it was somehow
retarded by me, but that was not the way i intended to do but hey, its pouet :-)
So i thought you all would stand above :-)

d0DgE: Yeah, XGL rocks... It rocks even more than Mac OSX's Aqua, and the
best about it: Its plugin based, so everyone can write own plugins for likely
every imaginable effect... And with the new patches from David Reveman its
running very fast and stable, even on a small machine under high CPU load...
I think the comination of these new technologies with the growing easyness
of installing linux or any other free os, there will be a real alternative soon for
any user... But that will take a year from here, maybe a little more, if its all
really stable and easy to install... Novell Desktop 10 will propably be the first
distribution using all of those new stuff as a default setting...

And the community does care about "normal" users and people who want to
get some work done, not just the freaks out there... Take a look here, its a database of
useability tests and videos which are given back to the devs, so that they can
make the desktop more better and useable...
