best of 2005 - the pouët charts, kinda

category: general [glöplog]
since i've fallen behind in scene-stuff-viewing, and i was a bit bored at work, i thought i'd make some lists of what pouet ppl thought were the best prods of the year. rather than take the highest rulez counts, or the thumb ratio (µ), i applied this amazingly complex formula:

rulez counts * thumb ratio (µ)

and charted up the highest by category. here they are, your top hits for 2005:

it was a pretty slow year for amiga intros (and maybe demos, except for tbl's usual pwnage).. c64 was pretty solid, though. and yes, optimus got himself on the top 10 wild prods list! asd, fairlight, traction, plastic, synesthetics, portal process, bauknecht, calodox, tbl, and rno all had a very good year.

hope this list gives your mind some fodder when picking scene.org award choices in march. or you can just ignore it and pick jumalauta for everything.

we now return you to your regularly scheduled BASS.

What about 4k intros?

Also, why isn't HAM-6 Kefratraz Bars in the Amiga intro list?

cheese, phoenix:

cut the mdS Infotro off the charts.
compared to Xerons latest and the fresh release by
the Drifters this is utter crap (as I confessed in the scroller ;) )

I second shifter. No tUM release had a serious chance. Two weeks vs. several months.
pfft. bollocks. one tum05 demo is #3, two tum05 4k intros are #2 and #3. plus a limp ninja prod actually made it, what the hell more do you want? :)

i guess it just goes to reinforce, thank fuck pouet != scene. :)

i wonder how many "many hits" prods were either a) linked from a group webpage; b) released by someone with a large thumbup following (read: the cracktro brigade); c) released when there was nothing else going on so got a lot of atttention (read: not around bp or asm).

that said, it's still kindof interesting :)

Smash:
I know a lot of people who will be happy to know they're part of the infamous cracktro brigade.

But you're right, outside parties there's no demoscene it's well known, at least not enough of it to spend the time to even finish a single demo, after all there's no hardware to win outside parties.

(evoke & tum organizers will appreciate c)).

hitch: you're so right, winning hw from demoparties is the 100% most efficient way i ever found to make money, so thats why i only release demos at parties.
it's all about the benjamins, baby!
added on the 2006-01-13 13:19:17 by smash smash
oh yea, and as for c: check the number of releases at bp and asm compared to evoke and tum, and you'll see what i mean.

See ? I'm talking about a certain pleasure of altruistic creation and right away you must write the word money somewhere, pity.

At a first glance, 48 releases != nothing.

Releasing at parties is a good way to make people look at your stuff. It's also great to see your production on the big screen.

That said, people should really release more stuff outside parties. I confess being guilty of hoarding things, I got one completed production that's pretty good in my opinion but I'm saving it for a party..
