Crackers of today

category: general [glöplog]
Crackers of today... Haven't heard much of them for a while. Is there any cracking or related activities (not including making demos) happening these days?
Yeah, nobody cracks games anymore, piracy is officially over.

Endless Piracy released their last cracktro in 1996 but since it's endless piracy, we can expect them to continue at some point.
^^I suppose so. But: ~13000 games released in 2023. Then there's continuous deployment. Who has time for that.

i heard from far away sources that piracy was like hip-hop, it was bestest back then.

Endkess Piracy was one of many groups ;).
Cracking is still kinda active(?) here and there.
For ex. very present on the C=64. Or could be call it rather piracy.
I am not the right person to give an opinion, but as Iks wrote.
So... it is over. That's like this.
As this system we are living in - it will be over one day, as well ;).

Have a good day!

Last thing i've heard some time ago was about an allegedly girl called Empress who can crack Denuvo as one of few crackers. She complained about the wokeness in the scene lastly. Well...

One of few crackers... Maybe yes. Taking under consideration that Apparently the first programmer was a woman ;)

In French wikipedia, there is a list how many games were actually deprotected.

Cracked games using Denuvo protection

Well, If still you trust 50% what is in Wiki, it is quite a lot ;)

I saw that the programmer for the Atari 8-Bit version of River Raid was a woman, Carol Shaw - she was one of the pioneers, I'm sure.

Yep, she was, no doubt =).
And what a GREAT game she coded \ö/!
Also she coded a part of Super BreakOut for the Atari 2600.

There are definitely old groups around cracking c64 or amiga software, and of course the internet is full of modern day warez if you look around.. But for me, buying your software is about respecting the work of the people behind it, apart from the legal implications, that is...

Uhh yeah, modern software is still being cracked by scene groups as can be seen by visiting release tracking sites like xrel.to or some of the usual places for warez. I don't think the mass of games released every year is that much of a problem considering that the majority is either lacking the need (no or well known copy protection), quality (lame game) or the audience (nobody gives a damn) to crack them. Also with frequent sales, subscription services and lets plays / playthroughs on youtube, there's more options to chose from besides "buy game at full price which hurts me financially", "pirate the game" when you just can't live without experiencing a game.

https://steamcrackedgames.com/groups besides tracking what's cracked also lists the groups that did.

When I moved to the UK I realised a lot of people eat cheese on top of crackers and it traumatised the fuck out of me…
Were they cream crackers?

I am disgusted and confused, DISGUSTED AND CONFUSED.
The best way to crack the cheese (or to just crack) is to put the cheese on the crackers and eat.
Anyway, cheese and wine. CHEEESE aannddd WIIINEEE.
