Assembly Summer - August 3rd - 6th 2023

category: parties [glöplog]
Hello there!

Assembly Compocrew has gathered and we are happy to announce that once again the biggest demoparty in Finland is happening in August and in true Assembly fashion we will bring you traditional compo content in at least following categories.

- 1k
- 4k
- Demo
- Oldschool 8bit & 16bit
- Oldschool 32bit & 64bit
- Real Wild
- Shortfilm
- Fantasy Console
- Gamedev
- Dance music
- Listening music
- Tracked music
- Fast Music
- Photo
- Graphics
- Fast Graphics

There can be changes to the compos or some compos might be combined depending on the amount of entries. Rules are being worked on at the moment and hopefully they can be published soon as well.

Ticket sales are open and updates about the event program are slowly starting to appear at https://party.assembly.org/summer23

See you in Helsinki in August!

Hey, is it normal that I don't see oldskool tickets or seat selection anymore? Or am I overlooking something?

Information on oldskool tickets is coming up. Keep on watching the site and/or e-mails. Possibly during next week.
(...says the staff on assembly's irc/telegram/whatever scenelounge chat)
I just noticed this:

"You will have to apply for an oldskool status separately each year."

https://party.assembly.org/fi/summer23/events/summer23/liput

This text (nor oldskool ticket info) does not exist for the English version...

During this year's Assembly Winter, one of the compo crew gave me an email address for applying as a volunteer. I can't find it now, of course. Could anyone tell me what it is?

The email is job-contact@assembly.org and the details for an application is on this page https://assembly.org/en/become-an-organizer

so I've heard that Pehu is not part of the organizing team any more. I wonder how this will affect operations. Is Rimina still around?

I believe Rimina is not involved with Asm orga, heard it's Eimink coordinating the demoscene section these days.

I'm just a regular compo orga as I had to step back a bit from the orga duties due to personal reasons. Jeccu is compocrew function head nowadays.

would be nice to visit - but oldschool tickets etc. are dead. No replies (in general very little help, I wonder if they'll update site but with only 2 weeks left it's getting a bit late)

So, if I read the Assembly Summer 23 site correctly.

- You need an oldschool ticket to participate in demoscene competitions.

- You need to apply to get an oldschool ticket and show some scene background.

That doesn't seem very welcoming to anyone, and a bit of a catch-22 for any newcomer wanting to get involved in the demoscene.

It's maybe not written very clear, but you only need an oldskool-ticket to participate with an remote entry. If you're present at the party any kind of ticket is valid.

The language on the site has been fixed to: "Purchase of a ticket is required to vote".

But once more:
- Some competitions allow remote entries, like for instance all realtime compos
- Ticket/Votekey is required for all voting

At least the following competitions do not allow remote entries:
Tracked Music
Fast music
In-game Photo
Dance music
Listening music

PartyMan will be the absolute final source of truth as per usual

And I stand corrected :D

REMOTE ENTRIES are ALLOWED in TRACKED MUSIC.

The entries will be shown in Scene lounge and there will be a preselection due to the running time of the compo.

The food from the food trucks was extremely bad, and extremely over-priced.

Was there a live stream of any of the compos? A recording of a live stream?
added on the 2023-08-06 16:53:18 by SamBeyond SamBeyond
There was a live stream on both Twitch and YouTube. (The YouTube stream appeared to be better in-sync for me. It was supposedly also given a higher-bitrate feed, but of course, you get a transcoding step anyway, so it depends on how happy VP9 is about your content.)
