A survey about protecting digital legacy of an era long gone

category: general [glöplog]

Hello, as part of his PhD, my friend Maciek (relatively known in certain areas of the Polish demoscene) is conducting a research on how people care about preserving the digital legacy.

Quote:

In this study, organized by researchers from the XR Lab of the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in cooperation with the Foundation for the History of Home Computers, we will ask you to evaluate activities aimed at protecting against oblivion and preserving for future generations the remains of the digital culture of the era of early home computers, covering in particular the years 80's and the first half of the 90's.
[...]
We have prepared this survey for you in order to collect data on the scope, preferences and possibilities of performing activities aimed at digitizing, archiving, processing and cataloging collections that make up the digital heritage of the era of early home computers, to give a chance to use them in the future both by scientists interested in the field as well as the next generations of enthusiasts of historical computerization.

He'd like to capture different opinions on what's left of the era of early home computers. Ideally, not only from people who deal with it to some extent, but also from those who simply remember the old machines (without too much sentiment) but are not actively dealing with them. So families, friends with a different hobbies etc are more than welcome too - the survey has its own dedicated path for people who don't use any of the old machines now.

He will appreciate if you could spread the link with people who you think might be interested in contributing.

Thanks in advance on his behalf!

Submitted.

I noticed it was anonymous. If he has any targeted follow-up questions he'd like to ask me, my survey had "mobygames.com" as part of one of the responses so it's hard to miss.
