What's with the history revisionism on (only) Pouet? :D

It's not so much a question of the memory as it's about big blits. I am curious about how many demos from the "golden age" (let's say 1991-1993) use that feature. My guess is a fair few, since it was supported on A500 from early/mid 1990 onwards.

From my preliminary findings it's mostly about memory, and sometimes some visual degradation from accidentally using newer Denise, but that was much later. It doesn't seem like people started using big blits with the appearance of bigger Agnuses, as for a significant impact on the golden age they probably appeared too late.
I'd love watching an endless number of demos to prove you right on this. :-)

Also, as Kusma pointed out: the platform categories are just that: categories. The most important properties of a set of platform categories are:
- They are mutually exclusive, and it's obvious to which category a production belongs.
- They don't lump together too many configurations that people generally consider significantly different.

That was never questioned.
What would make it up can be negotiated when we have more data. What you point out does not contradict the suggestion. It's the same as with OCS/ECS vs. AGA, some productions would be split off, while many if not most run on higher machines, at the same time a new home would be opened for productions that require more memory, a newer OS or run from HD. The only difference is, you could check with a glance on Pouet if it runs on an old A500.

Not at all, there will be no negotiations, we will determine if your suggestions match with our strategy.

It appears to me that you are once again aiming to make suggestions that you already know we won't accept.

You're still more than welcome to make those lists though.

Negotiated with experts in the platform, such as Blueberry.

No, from a database perspective it would be just as outlined above.

I can't remember that being a compatibility issue back in the day, and there was certainly no shortage of OCS A500s around. I would imagine that the performance benefit of big blits wasn't worth alienating most A500 users, but I'd love to see such demos for the sake of curiosity!

I like big blits and I cannot lie
You other sceners can't deny
That when a huge effect rolls by in overscan
It's all according to Blueberry's plan
Agnus got back!

Sorry, carry on.

Time for a summary? The categories and compo types on this site are approximations. Photon does not like that sort of approach, but has a hard time getting other people to give a shit.

I love the fact that all the Amiga elite people here are trying to stay calm and explains their views quietly with a lot of details in a polite way.

On the other side we have someone who apparently think he is the master of the demoscene, act like troll and answer back very harshly.
