Did the Amiga group Iris change their name?

category: residue [glöplog]
From what I remember, this group were called Iris (shorthand IRS) and their demos also had that name, and Pouet.net and Demozoo carried information about all their prods.

Now, in the last week, I find that they have seemingly (on Pouet at least) changed their name to "Illi Recentes ImperatoreS" and that now the IRIS is the shorthand. YET, Demozoo has no information at all about this "new" group!

Was this another user change that wasn't warranted or necessary, or have they really changed their name? I can't seem to find the discussion page for the group, or in fact, any group on Pouet.

What does that mean? I didn't want to start a thread about this, but I don't know how or who to PM around here about this sort of thing.

I think they changed their name to IRISH Q once!
I see. I just don't understand the reaction around here to me lately, you'd almost think I was a nuisance! I started this thread under "residue" for a reason, because I would've preferred not to start a thread at all. But I had to know the answer to my question. I may come across as a "help vampire", but I have no idea how to look for such scene info. :)

Just had a look for those in the group, but can't find any active contact details. At least I did some research.

FWIW even coming to IRC would probably get you further when it comes to getting single questions answered.

I know there are alternatives like IRC, but I don't think I've ever learnt how to use them. Maybe now's the time? :)

they changed from Illi Recentes ImperatoreS to IRIS in 2001 when doom's eyesight problems were becoming after he got bitten by cookie monster and became a diabetic. He just couldnt type the full name anymore without typos. Related to this, it also explains their shift in artistic direction and why they no longer are on friendly terms with people from Sesamestreet!
"were becoming worse" obviously
i should rename myself to IRIS as well :(
No need to be sarcastic.

@Foebane72: So, I'm one of those guys who are considering you a help vampire, but I'll try to be serious this time.

A large part of your questions and threads seem to be founded in the need to sort, catalogue & enumerate things according to some set of consistent rules.
Sometimes those rules are your own, such as your preferred way of sorting a demo collection (and then you may complain that noone else adheres to the same rules), and sometimes you seem on the search for The Official Demoscene Rule Book in order to make sense of things you observe.

So, here's the kicker: There might not always be consistent & predictable rules for everything.
Also, many people take great pleasure in not being limited by such rules, or even by consciously circumventing / breaking them.
This means that you might be looking for order where there is none.

TL;DR - IRIS are Danish. That means they're random as fuck and their humour is as incomprehensible as their spoken language. Tomorrow they may have decided that "IRIS" means something completely different.
Wow, what a good answer from Slummy. Regarding the "help vampireness", I would like to ask you a question:

But I had to know the answer to my question.

Why is this? Why does a name of a random Amiga demo group matter to you in any possible sense?

I'm seriously asking, because I'd like to understand the mindset.

OK, I'll tell you the reason why I'm asking:

I've got a collection of video recordings I made of various Amiga and PC demos (well, the PC demos were from YouTube), and so I stored them on various media, except for the cloud which is not possible because of the sheer amount of data (~20Gb).

Most of the time it's no problem, I just rename the files in question if there's a change, most easily using a batch file for the multiple copies. The trouble is I recently burnt all of these videos onto DVD in an attempt to preserve them better than on HDD or flash memory (I know: debatable), and that was fine, until I saw this change. Now it's like I'm trying to confirm the change or hope it's not true, because then (because I'm a fussy bastard who likes everything consistent) there would be a difference with the names of these demos on DVD compared to all my other copies.

I have been bothered by this obsession with backing up on CD/DVD for a long time, as I really don't trust flash memory for long-term or even HDDs, but I forced myself off the format recently by chucking out a perfectly good portable DVD burner, and getting rid of all my data DVDs (except for the video DVDs that can be played on my LG Blu-ray player. And now I feel I ought to chuck those as well.

I know what you're probably all thinking, that I really am absolutely obsessed with order and so forth, but maybe I ought to chuck those DVDs and then rename all the video files on formats I CAN change? That's always the thing I didn't like about optical media: when everything's fine, I feel warm and fuzzy, but if there's a change, I get annoyed at having to burn yet another DVD (at cost, too - these media are getting fucking expensive!)

Optical media ROM seems to be going the way of the dodo - maybe I should jump that ship for good?

there are disks with terabytes in them that would avoid that logistic nightmare of yours

regarding random amiga demoscene questions, i can recommend asking magic of nah-kolor before posting them on pouet.

You mean store many, many copies on one drive? Or in addition to others?

Honestly, I really will try to refrain from asking yet more posts about organising things, most often when they don't need to be, at least so stringently.

Setup a RAID1 with a bunch of drives where all files are mirrored on every drive. If one files, you buy a replacement, and the system will mirror the content on the new drive automatically. For the OS, you only see one drive. This tech has been around since 1987.
