Last version of XTC-PLAY?

category: music [glöplog]

I am curious as to what is the last version of XTC-PLAY for MS-DOS that was released? The latest version I found was v0.97c.

Also, was there ever a website for XTC that is available on archive.org?

I think 0.97c was the last one I used at least... It was my go-to module / MP3 player.

Yes, it seems to be the best all around player for GUS and MS-DOS/Win9X setups that I'm aware of. CMOD is nice, but it has some bug where I guess it's not freeing memory properly with Win9x. If you open it and play a few modules, close it, then open up anything with the command prompt (i.e. run -> command.com) it will exit with command allocation error. XTC-PLAY doesn't have this problem.

XTC's ability to allow you to play larger modules (up to 8mb, 64mb with a GUS PnP) is nice too. CMOD apparently has this capability too but I could never get it to work as reliable as XTC can.
