I did a chart based on the decreasing trend in 64kb yearly releases which predicted the incoming death of the 64kb category... I should try with updated data and see what the prediction looks like nowadays :)

Defiance: because doing an awesome 64k means that you have to do an awesome demo, AND you have to develop the tools for creating the content as well...

conclusion is that probably both aspects are correct... on the technical aspect its harder to create a 64k intro, and on the real life + little time aspect yeah its better to make a decent demo rather than a shitty intro, leading people away from the 64k category.

defiance: i think there's two sides to the story, for starters it's better to make a good demo than a crappy intro in the little free time you have left, and also it is harder to create a 64ktro that doesn't scare ppl from competing in that category. does that answer your question?

havoc: yes, plus it is easier for starters to hide behind the demo category, if their demo is total crap, whereas in 64k it isn't, since people will be more demanding, leading to 10x more negative attitude towards the intro.

I think what he said about oldschool platforms was also interesting. He should take a look at the scene, it's pretty much exactly what he was talking about. The people playing with 2600s to learn and appreciate working under hefty constraints are right here doing awesome shit.
