The best female computer geek ever!!!

Oh shit,. Pouet is back and there are great discussions about Metalvotze which I still haven't checked. I came here at the netcafe, I have fuckin great mood and hearing some weird stuff at demoscene.tv, while reading teh shit and giving thumbs up to the ones trully deserve. I will have to download the entries, watch them all and then read threads too, so I am calculating to give at least 10 Euros to the lucky guys here. But let's get to our subject because I had to post something after so many time..

Natasha of ATI corporation is the best female geek I have ever seen!!! The show was very wicked because people were shouting "AMIGA" or "I LOVE YOU" but she kept replying back very macho and very cool, that was NEAT!!!

Wow! Natasha,.. I couldn't go and congratulate you or anything at BP, but if you read that now, you were so fuckin cool and I love you too!!! (I was not the one who were shouting, I found your show very interesting :-)>~ and except from teaching me how pixel shader effects theoritically worked, it has definitelly inspired me for coding some similar stuff on my beloved Amstrad CPC!!!

Hallo to all the other female sceners (and the ones who tried to go away from a drunken Optimus (Hallo Fashion, why my girl? I am not dangerous at all :). Which one of you can beat Natasha now?! =)

Damn! I am flying.. (and I still have to start studying :P)

"Hell, you the hell should the hell use the hell more shaders the hell! Hell! They hell rule the hell out of the hell!"

Ah, *this* is Natasha Tatarchuk? She looks nice! And i've stumbled over her writings before. Since i wasn't at BP, i had asked people over IRC whether it's *she*, but noone would tell me.

i wonder if she saw the amiga demo compo... maybe she discovered the magics of software rendering :)

It takes courage to stand up infront of so many people who knows the shit she's gonna talk about better, and then claim they dont..

I felt sad for ATI.. So much money, and then ruin it because of they thought we where morons who doesnt know a shit about modern GPUs... Sad sad sad.

ps. Rather funny they sponsored DXM because we use 2.0 shaders in our last intro and then she claims NOBODY uses shaders AT ALL on the demoscene, Normalmaps? NOO NOBODY HAS NEVER USED THIS..

arne: maybe she was not adressing the 2% that knew everything, but the 98% that did not..

just an idea..

and besides, the best demos at bp didn't use shaders :)

arneweisse: actually when we talked about what the show should become like before I made the "mistake" to tell her that a big part of the demo scene is quite reluctant to use shaders. To picture that as if the whole demoscene was stuck in the DX7 era was her own idea. So Stelthz is quite right there ;)

Oh, and I don't think you or most other BP visitors know the "shit" she was talking about better than her. That woman is darn competent. At least she writes articles for graphics and game programming books when U don't. :)

What did farbrausch get from ATI for releasing 3 (or more?) prods that require a pixelshader?

added on the 2004-04-16 22:17:40 by Stelthzje Stelthzje
Like, Demoscene is not that reluctant to use shaders. Some demos and many intros use them these days, and almost each that uses them also requieres them. Go find a game that *requieres* pixelshaders and relies on them - they just started to appear.

stelthz: we won that FireGL for the 96k game, but that about was it. That the prods require pixel shaders (note that the 4k isn't an official FR release) is just because pixel shaders are more fun than no pixel shaders :)

Honestly : Im quite happy about those crappy DX8-productions, because THEY RUN ON MY CRAPPY PC!
Nothing sucks more than the not beeing able to run a production because it needs some fancy hardware you don't have...
Well, definitly, Pixel/Vertex-shaders 2.0 are cool and powerfull, and if the compo-PC runs a demo, why not... But I hate being forced to upgrade and ugpgrade again.
Anyways I don't think she told me and 90% of the PC coders anything new, it was more like an ATI-prick-length-presentation. A real coding session, seperate place/interested people/... only would have been better.

IMHO ;-)

rarefluid: i wonder what's the problem. i upgraded my gfx card for 70 EUR a couple of weeks ago, and i have shaders 2.0. OK, not exactly fast, but that's what resolution selectors are for. and i can buy new cheap cards once in a while, and this would give me on average a better performance (and more hardware to decorate the walls) than if i was bying costy cards, because i couldn't upgrade them more often than once every 5 years. the world changes too fast to stay on the same spot, but demoscene has been one ofthe powers moving forward, not backward. and i think it should stay so.

besides, you don't have to upgrade yourself that often. you can make your friends upgrade and organize small parties to view demos on their comps. :>

and say, why did noone moan about demos requiering too powerful computers in 1992? well, they did requiere a top notch! and demos were much, much much more picky that days. if you have bad luck with your mainboard (most have had), GUS won't work. and if it doesn't, forget every approximation of compatibility and quality sound. then tons of hardware dependant hacks were used for gfx card etc.

kb: *please* tell the guys to make resolution choosable in the 96k game! i think my card would do something like 400x300. :>
