What annoys me the most in this case is the fact that he robbed hundreds of thousands of dollars of hardware.

I can excuse the software piracy 'coz the people using warez wouldn't pay for the things they use. If the warez didn't exist ( for a reason or another ) the Open Source community would be far more popular.

use a real browser and (obtrusive) ads will be a thing of the past.

adblockers are stupid. give every internet user adblockers and no service will be free anymore. i like reading my favourite quality newspaper on the internet, don't mind the ad.

$690,236.91 !! Geez. Well, I guess it would've come to this sooner or later, Razor1911 being a true legend in the scene...

sir RICHARD kbab: Fine. As long as there'll be some users like you who enjoy to eat some ads, I could access some contents completely for free. Thank you.

Somehow the amount of ads on a site and the crappy-ness of it's content seem to be related anyhow, so away with the ads I say.

The ironic thing about all this, is that in Feb'03, when an admin from iSONEWS was arrested (for selling modchips), Razor1911 had the arrogance to mention this in their infos:

IMPORTANT NEWS:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well it looks like what we always knew would come to pass finally has. For years Razor 1911 has stood out against those who would profit from the scene. ISONEWS was always one of the biggest offenders, and now its founding father has been busted. We hope he will pay a high price, and we hope that anyone else who considers profiting from the scene will desist.
Kinda ironic then that just 4 months later, Razor leader gets busted for selling warez.
It's not ironic :)
It just shows how straight and honest the warez-people are :)
which leads me back to my topic: Razor 1911 si teh sux :)
mtl, who got busted for selling software ?
Ah, hmm.
Its entirely likely that my information may be wrong. In part it was hearsay, in part it was news reports such as this: www.gamespot.com
Gamespot quotes include: According to court documents, Breen and other Razor1911 members acquired, cracked, and sold advance copies of Quake, Command & Conquer ... Breen and his associates would then illegally distribute their games via pirated-software sites and often sell physical copies
Looking at the DoJ release however there is no indication of selling software.
I'd be interested in seeing the court documents, anyone have a PACER account? :)
I think running a scam like that and being a high profile warez scener when you're more than old enough to realize that what you're doing is wrong is a bit worse than running a site with info files and selling modchips... But that's just my opinion man.
"Razor1911 concealed its illegal activities by using a variety of technologically sophisticated security measures. Members identified themselves online only by screen nickname, never by their full real name"
So according to the US Department of Justice Rumplestiltskin was "technologically sophisticated"?
