Chrome Experiments

category: general [glöplog]
http://www.chromeexperiments.com/

Just launched, there are some demoscene-ish stuff, and also stuff from actual demosceners :P If you have any javascript demo, it's the right time to get some exposure. And show demos to the people.

As an Opera employee it would be funny for me to submit something but he I'm a scener & a JS freak above all. I could try to cook something for them.

/me likes the ballpool, the subdividing spike cube, and the canopy thing. The other are mmmh meh or seen before.

@texel: you're totally right, and they should have been all 4k.

Just a note on my post: I love ballpool, but not as an experiment but as art (artistical design). What I am not interested at all is about doing something that can be done and have already been done in Flash, faster and working for all platforms, and it is just a technical example now in Chrome with JS... it is not an improvemt over anything: slower, not bilineal filtering in rotations, less compatibility and no innovations at all... shit.

Chrome 2.0 has nicer antialiasing on the text rotated.
What do you think about Google Gravity? Been done before too?

Oh, by the way, feel free to show us the path and do something which is not shit in your standards :)

Yep, it has been done, much better: http://www.youtube.com/experiencewii

You're right again. What a waste of time.
added on the 2009-03-19 12:49:10 by mrdoob mrdoob
Uhm, for the sake of fairness, google gravity was unofficially released (the flash version) months before experiencewii. But, of course, I can't prove that.

Really nice, but dead slow in everything except Iron/Chrome: http://www.chromeexperiments.com/detail/monster/

trace, I've to admit that by the way I write things time to time (like in my first post) makes me an asshole. I am, I know.

But, the most of the experiments at that site have nothing interesting to me by the coding/technical part. As art, some of these are interesting, mostly gravity and ballpool are interesting. But not by the technical part, but as concept.

Well, the bouncing ball is also cool. But the rest? The 3d thing for example... it's just a simple 3d thing... so what?

About the gravity thing, I believe you if you tell me it was done before the wii thing. In that case, kudos for it :)

texel: absolutely nothing new about the bouncing ball thing wither, I did that back in 2000-2001

Texel: You're missing the whole point of the site. Just to clarify, the main point is to show what Javascript can do. The fact that it was done before in Flash or C doesn't have anything to do here. Again, if you can do it better, they have a submit option for you.

trace: You're missing the whole point of the site. Just to clarify, the main point is to promote Google Chrome.

jesus, you guys, stop whining, Google thinks 'demostyle' effects are cool and hip, and they are entitled to their opinions, just like you

don't hate, congratulate

nice work trace
I'd say someone at a site like pouet would appreciate stuff being done on platforms where that didnt seem possible or feasible before...
