Brokepoint - Breakpoint 2009 is in danger and needs YOUR support

category: general [glöplog]
We don't own the PROJECTOR tho, and that's the expensive part :)

But thanks to satis&fy (our video rental company) and their great support of BP at least the HD stuff is secured ;)

megazoom! As told, this is no real costpoint anymore and everyone always finds something we can get rid off to save money but seeing your production on a TV is not good enough for a party. Maybe if you're the one on the 1st row. I could live without a beertent (I go behind my house to see one), another one could live without a DJ Set (get your Car-HiFi loud if you want to). I think the organizer will have a decent red line through it all... what counts is the place, the spirit and the releases. So if you want to contribute you could get into the last 2 points for sure ;) And scamp, respect.

Well, about the stream: We simply have a clash of interests here. Those donating and attending the party have an interest of having all the money spend for the party location so they can profit from it the most. Those donating and not attending have an interest in at least getting something out of their money by watching the party via stream. If you donate and not attend you're simply not getting anything for your money, only the ones at the partyplace itself, since the demos will be released anyways and the awards are given away with or without the ceremony.

To all those who bought supporter tickets: You now should have the invoice in your mailbox. Again thank you very much for your support! :)

emoon: you're aware that you will now get equally many hugs, as euro donated, at Breakpoint? :)

Salinga: a good compromise could be the promise of a good party report video :)

Gotta say I feel a bit bad about posting (OK nagging...) about the stream - because now I remembered that last year there was some problems with a last minute cancellation of the DTV coverage, and the BP organizers came through bigtime and provided a really kickass stream of all major events of the party
(there was even a big 'thank you BP08 stream team' thread on Pouet I think).

So there should be no question, I think if the BP organizers had any possibility of providing a stream this year as well, they would do it, unfortunately the economic and organizational situation doesn't allow it.

I guess I'll have to spend my easter holiday evenings doing something else (or perhaps there will be internet uplink from the party so the binaries can be released after the compo? In that case I'll be F5:ing pouet all nights instead :D)

Anyway I chipped in my (very small) contribution via Paypal and I say best of luck to everyone , organizers and attendees both.

We've just decided to cancel the seminars. This saves 4k in the budget and therefore brings the party tent into reach. It also frees up organizer resources, which we are extremely low on, to work on other, more important points of the party.

Sorry for those who'll miss the seminars (which includes myself): They'll return for 2010.

can skrebbel hold one about drum and bass for graphicians in the main hall?

Gargaj, can we set something up where anyone who posts that cretinous 'actual size' meme automatically gets e1000000 debited from their bank account?
sdw: There still is a pretty good chance that there might be streaming video done by BP.TV. It's just we don't know for sure yet, and that it is not a top priority right now, as we first need to secure the basics. After that is done, we'll sure look further into it.

We just don't wish to get nagged about it right now, it's a major distraction while I really wish people to focus on things that we need support about now. Right now I want

a) The bar to become shorter by getting essential party equipment cheaper or free, by trying to get financial support from the city and by cutting costs whereever still possible.

b) The filled part of the bar to rise. (On a side note: It may do so slow right now, but keep in mind that sponsor negotiations take time and will result in a jump of the bar only later.)

And to everyone who won't be able to attend BP and would love to see a stream: If you haven't done so, may I kindly ask you to donate a few bucks via http://www.scene.org/donate_breakpoint.php or http://www.digitalekultur.org/en/breakpoint09.html? It will give you a warm fuzzy feeling, and there is a good chance that Breakpoint visitors will be able to thank you on a stream.

gargaj: I'd love to see that, yes. Skrebbel, are you in? :)

i'd rather see skrebbel's "forget about c, do c# for musicians"?

It's my believe that those who don't come to a party should be punished.

Huh? Isn't that a BIT arrogant? I thought streams were there to extend a party's atmosphere/message/whateveryouwannacallit to those who couldn't go. You really think that those people would have attended had they not have the chance to watch it online?

i think streams are good for a party marketing/publicity wise... especially when considering the continuity of the party in the future (sofa sceners might finally get assed to get off their sofa in 2010, 2011 etc)... however, atm there are other concerns with a higher priority right NOW involving direct costs involving basic needs for the party.
it's a shame there's no way to set-up a pay-to-view streaming service. that way, those that want it could, well, pay for it. it could have made commercial sense for DTV to take the burden and organize it based on some kind of website registration front end and allow sceners to purchase the stream. probably technically very difficult to implement or something.

but as people have already said, the stream comes second to basics. without the basics there would be no party to stream :)

All I can say is: Giving the live stream a higher priority could motivate higher donations from those who wouldn't come anyways. Without stream the donation of a sofa scener just helps the people at the party place (and therefor the sofa-scener-donation is a symbolic one). With a stream the donation helps those at the party place and those watching at home are benefitting too (and therefor the sofa-scener-donation isn't a symbolic one anymore because he directly benefits from it).

Just my 2 cents. And last time showed that there are more watching the competitions via stream than live at the party place. That bigger crowd should be motivated to donate more.

Making it easier to reach the point where streaming is financed could get higher donations that finance the stream plus a lot more that comes after streaming prioritywise.
