Doskpop?

category: music [glöplog]

Give me some clues. What is Doskpop, what are the typical elements of it, and which musicians are known for doing it?
i still think that lizardking solely made that term up to describe the kind of music that he's doing. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

If i reckall correctly Lizardking was from scandinavia right? which would imply that he called his music "lame pop".

It often seemes to aim for the typical fairlight (the synth) sound made known though guys like Jan Hammer, etc. Loads of metallic sounds to build the main grove, and a bassline pattern that is not forreign to todays psytrance just a lot slower bpmwise.

So the grove is often K(kick) B(bass)

KBBBKBBBKBBBKBBBKBBBKBBB .....where the bass will be made up of metalic clonks and clanks.

If that made sense, give me the number to your dealer.

ah ofcourse and on top of this there is grandiouse saw leads and orchestrations. well atleast as much as 4chn allowed for. Lizardking was really skilled at sounding like he had more channels than 4 :)

KLOMROSK !
Listen to Lizardking and you know what Doskpop is. He invited this music style. Also many other musicians copied this style.

There recently was a discussion about Doskpop at Bitfellas and I've collected a few songs in that style, mainly from Lizardking, Awesome, Purple Motion, TDK, Elwood, Blue Fox, Nightbeat, Typhoon and way more. You can download the archive from http://bobic.back2roots.org/files/Doskpop.zip. Grab it soon as it won't stay there forever.

Basically cheesy, instrumental pop music, made by 1990s tracker musicians aka diskmag background music. ;)

I'd say Lizardking did not invent the style at all, he just CALLED it Doskpop (did he, actually?), and everyone seems to have stuck to that. Clearly there were tracks before Lizardking's stuff that totally fit in the same music style. No?

yes he did call it doskpop and said that it was a style he had invented. I read this from a master's thesis about demoscene music. the writer had interviewed lizardking.

Now, the fact that sceners back then was heavily influenced by the commercial arts/crafts, I place a pretty safe bet when claiming that Lizardking did NOT invent doskpop.
I have no evidence, though. I just can't be bothered looking.
(But, strangely enough, I COULD be bothered writing this post...interesting...)

LizardKing tunes := Doskpop.

Never got the big hype with lizardking. All his tracks followed the same recipe. Overuse of samples. My cousin made this fun-irony-whatUmayCallIt module with the same elements of typical lizardking tracks, "elementary hating"..was kinda funny at the time.......bahhh...guess you had to be there :D

The last mods POW/ex.IRIS,SSP made was some kind of doskpop style...."newskool doskpop???"

Someone is against the doskpop? There can be the future Italodisco tunes! :D
By the way, I love doskpop! Lizardking was mostly inspired by Italodisco, as I've seen in the interview. Also the new albums are in this style?
