hey gloom, you should add that video as a response to your first one, if that's possible

good work gloom. haha shit Timblanad is such a bitch, this aint even about sampling anymore. Now timbaland owns tempest enough money to send tempest into space! The first demoscene spacetourist!

chameleon: Already done. They are now linked to each other, so if you see one, there is a good chance that you would want to see the other as well.

Keep spreading the word people!

I actually never stopped to think about the potential impact this could have on the demoscene.. if we were smart, and had the time, we would update and prepare some "What is the demoscene?"-stuff so that all the potential press would be good for something.

i think that's a stupid idea, in my opinion the demoscene should stay underground. and nobody would care for that video, it's also a bit offtopic :)

gloom: werent you supposed to be doing that for a section of the new scene.org awards site anyways? :)

I've noticed some of the non-pouet comments say they never would've heard of Tempest if it weren't for this controversy. On the other hand, I never would've heard of Timbaland if it weren't for this controversy. Just goes to show how uncool I really am. (And I'm keeping it that way, dammit.)

(On a side note, in the unlikely event Tempest does get a settlement, how about donating some to scene.org???)
let tempest keep his money ffs dont start that thingie already.

about timbaland, I listen to alot of hiphop and consider myself pretty good at namedropping artists etc. ofcource I knew about timbaland before the controversy but I always thought of him as the mainstream dude with a silly name that said something stupid on an MTVawards 3 years ago when producing elliots album. cant say I ever listend to him =) I mean, timberland. haha. Where are the hiphopproducers Helly Hansen and Fjällräven?

ps: Yeah, I still am. :) I got trace onboard for the flash-part, but I haven't gotten around to actually writing the new texts yet, and I don't want it to be a rush-job either. :)

thom: Scene.org is a non-profit organization and I actually think that we have enough to keep ourselves afloat (not that I'm the treasurer, so Matti will have to confirm this, but I'm pretty sure) -- so Tempest should keep the settlement-cash, if there ever is a settlement.

Though, if he scores big I can think of a certain party in Germany this easter who could probably need a beer-donor. :)

Yeah, well. I honestly don't think he'll score big, so it was more of a fanciful "what if" comment.
And I'd like to add that the second Youtube video is pretty damning...
I'd prefer to leave scene.org out of all this thank you. Unless it's to fund a copyright protection program ;)

"Demoscene Artist IP Protection Program" :)

..and Scene.org is already involved, seing as the original MOD is hosted there. But yeah, I see your point.

Yeah, I have already sent the editor a note about the use of the word "MIDI" where it clearly does not apply. :)

Where's the actual proof that this alleged "original" was made in 2000 and not 2 days ago? I smell bullshit

The comments over att youtube only makes me sad.. people are randomly posting shit without doing any research whatsoever.

Well. real internet users :)

Also.. notice how many racist insults contaminate comments. That's a pretty sad picture.

a_lee_n: Welcome to the Internet -- we hope you enjoy your stay!

:)

But seriously; yeah -- there are some sad, sad, uninformed and stupid people out there. What _really_ scares me though, are the comments that say something along the lines of "c'mon, rap has always sampled, it's, like, the whole idea!" or "the original song was crap anyway, you should be lucky someone like timbey picked it up and made something good with it!!111oneoneone"

There are just way too many such comments, I'm sad to say.

Yeah, what the hell is wrong with people? I'm willing to bet that most of the people saying such things are american btw. Probably some white trash hockey-hair-looking asshole, leeching WiFi in his trailer from some nearby office-building, sitting there feeling sorry for himself and blaming anyone with even the slightest bit of success. :)

I'm a bit scared about the big labels skimming through the scene.org archives and randomly sueing demoscene artists for using samples, now that we got their attention...
