baldrick made a very important point which I will reiterate here. State your reference people. Don't try pretending or keeping ambiguity as to what you actually did and what you did not. That is the real dishonesty, not the act of copying itself.

bla bla bla bla

to all the "copying is a crime"-preachers...

...have you ever actually managed to copy a vallejo picture by hand? can you do proper dither and alias without using tools? do you know how to make a picture look vibrant with only 16 or 32 colors?

no? then i dare you... draw me a convincing vallejo copy for atari/amiga/whatever, using nothing but a reference picture, your computer and your mouse...

if you can do that, i'll reconsider your arguments. however, until then, how about crawling back under the rock you came from? :-)

Do you think people are trying to convince you of something, havoc?

Havoc: seriously, I haven't even tried but I find that totally lame anyway and it's not what I expect from creative and talented people in the demoscene :)

(hello Nova, hello Kenet, hello Gizmo and some others)

knos: i think people are trying to convince me of a lot of opinions, sadly most of them appear to range somewhere inbetween plain uninformed and utterly delirious.

keops: i wouldn't expect creative and talented people in the scene to shamelessly rip off toys'r'us' design style, but they do that anyway... :P

Erm... tell me where you see any exact copy or font ripping or carbon copy ripping here? I fail to see the connexion with a carbon copy (and perhaps scanned) picture of another artist with another signature shamelessly added to it.

I chose a similar colorscheme on purpose for the introduction to remind people of the toys and childhood atmosphere. You know, like MFX used classic ACIDHOUSE stuff in "aliens ate my demomaker"

It's called consistency afair, not ripping. I thought someone like you could grab this very basic concept. Did I overestimate you?

keops:
i think you need to look at it from a different perspective to understand my point. just imagine the intro wasnt made for evoke, but for toys'r'us, and you had used an exact copy of their logo et al. would that make it a shitty intro all of a sudden? i beg to differ...

Sorry but I still fail to see the connexion between a carbon copy picture with an illegitimate signature (a total ripoff so to speak, nothing less than stolen artwork and credits) on it and a whole intro trying to communicate an atmosphere through a logo with a few common colors and a star, to remind people of stuff purposefully.

But well, let this thread become my trial as a defense for scanners and rippers, if that makes you feel better about your work as an artist :)

please quote me where i am directly comparing your work with an unsigned unedited ripoff? in fact, please quote me anywhere where i'm defending unsigned unedited ripoffs?

yes i am playing advocate of the devil here. but i am not putting down other people's hard work in any way. not yours, not anyone else's. it's just that i don't inmediatly condemn any and all copied pictures because *copying a picture properly* is not even half as simple as ppl presume it to be. if that pisses you off, so be it- but then you might as well get pissed off about any musical score that contains sampled sounds.. :-(

Also why is that 2d graphicians get to be called names. I see themselves calling each other artists. I wonder if it's like the n-bomb or q-bomb. In the sense that only among the outcasts one call each other with such insults.

wow, i love you rez! the passion and disappointment :)

yes, it's a lame rip, no matter how you look at it.

scene was originally about craftmanship, not about "art". and as havoc stressed it, copying a picture by hand is craftmanship deluxe. and eventhough it was exactly melon who made the drift towards "artsy" stuff in the demoscene, they were still caught to the old methods. okay, of course it was lame to claim that the picture is handdrawn, but that's another topic. i still like melon. :)

No Sir, it's not another topic, it's the very topic of Rez's thread

yeah but the whole thread shifted over to a "copy vs. no copy" thing. so it _is_ an other topic by now. =)

Usual Pouet behavior, people have issues focusing more than a few minutes on a topic it seems...

i like graphics!

I like graphics too. I like seeing things with my eyes. Things like landscapes, and buildings. But architecture these days is shallow and has no soul. Not like in the 80s. Oh man, the 80s were nice. Jarre did his best music in the 80s, you know... something about techno these days.. and technology.. the moon landing.. conspiracy theories.. some flaming.. couple of random pictures..

What's not to love.

hm I prefer 1920~1930 architecture...
Ando Tadao is also great those days :)
