i need a dreamcast coder

category: general [glöplog]
been planning this goddamn dreamcast musicdisk for fucking ages, and dc coders keep bailing on me. all music is done for over year and a half, i keep getting annoyed by the musicians about what happened to it, 98% of the graphics are done. i dont want to turn it into another windows only musicdisk. and dont want to just release the music without the interface after having delayed it for so long. i want to keep the original idea of making it for dc/ps2. anyone into console dev wants to have a go at this nut? -_-

I'll get bashed for this one, but it happens so often I won't care.
What's the point of a dc musicdisk? Afaik dc has only sample based output, which to me would not add much value to the musicdisc. To me dc as a platform is hard to reach without being particularly desirable, like old-skool platforms.
Try to make a musicdisk which runs on Windows/Linux/Mac, and voilà, you have something fairly unique, but still something that will be enjoyed by many.

Read "like old-skool platforms" as "unlike old-skool platforms", my point was that old-school platforms (C64, Ataris, Amigas and the like) are more desirable than dc.
Just to avoid confusion.

well nitro, its like telling a demo maker, "nice... but why don't you play games instead?"

i just want a dreamcast. What is a reasonable price on those today?
Ger: I don't agree. Demo making should have a point and a technical brilliance. For example, rendering a rotating gourad shaded cube on a C64 has a point since it's a coding challenge, while it is not a challange to the same thing on a modern PC. There are some things that there's simply not a point doing.

nitro2k01: Please.. shut that pie hole of yours! ;-)
Releasing demos/intros/musicdiscs are about having fun and do whatever you like regardless of the platform of your choice.. It's not about making sense, it's a about making something while having a good time! :-)

ps: You'd contact Ben/Overlanders. He coded the dcplaya and generally has loads of time for "vain" projects ;)

Hire some hobo!

No really, I love it when people ask for the good will of a coder. As if they had more time than graphicians or musicians ;)

nicolas: thats a very polite way of saying you arent gonna port it to ps2

no not really, I was replying to nobody in particular, or rather to monk.

I'd be open to the idea if the musidisk is done either by mid december or early february.

My january project is already chosen :)

Nitro: The DC doesn't have a whole lot of demos and stuff. Isn't that reason enough to release something for it?

Anyway, there's a lesson to be learned here about trusting coders.
