sim: it's a realtime remake of [TBC DVD Experience](https://demozoo.org/productions/64152/), an animation from Meltdown 2002.
curious how they did the multilanguage version of the sampled soundtrack, maybe the original pop song that was sampled on the video from 2002 was also in multiple languages. no clue what the song is though but probably big in denmark and sweden :P

Some more context:
The original soundtrack is a remix of a cover of a Danish translation of the Spanish Eurovision song-contest entry from 1973. Our version throws the Swedish translation as well as the original Spanish version into the mix. Hence the triple start.
We didn't go as far as the Yugoslavian song the Eurovision song has been accused if plagiarism of, though.

pS (and others): The original song is actually Spains Eurovision entry from 1973, Eres Tu, which placed second. Back in those days, I guess it was usual to translate the songs into other languages or something? In addition to the ones in this production, I have also heard a norwegian version.. I assume thrre are others..

This was an amazing surprise. For some reason the original have a special place for many of the danish demosceners, some norwegians as well <3 - It's been a tradition to view it after prizegiving at TRSAC for a lot of years.

20-something years have passed and we are still doing the same kind of jokes, only with a different larger group of people. Don't ever change.
If I had known this would be watched more than 2-3 times during the spring of 2002, a final version might have been planned a little harder...

Who the fuck knows anymore. I guess we decided to make something a bit different than the usual "I can’t code for shit, so lets do realtime effects in Lightwave instead" demo.
The sheep were inspired by the loonies blowup fu..mascot.
The idea of the music, I don’t have a clue. Most likely Orange had some crazy idea that involved into the whole animation. The first, and only, version of the music were not what I expected, but it worked out great. I think.
dwarf: I completely forgot about the “edit on a blanket stunt” We need to take more pictures.
Big shoutout to Orange for the soundtrack. Wherever you are..I hope you are well.

Hahah, what got me was the graphics fidelity to the original. :-) And what Farfar said; there are some demos that you can only release at one party, and then be confident of a win no matter what else happens in the compo. :-)
cheesytbc: It's not that complicated, really. It has been a thing (or a meme, as the kids say) at TRSAC for many years, and there have been Norwegians at TRSAC taking it back home. In particular, I would assume that lug00ber’s fondness of it has had something to do with the popularity :-)

Weird demo. It didn't work in both Gecko web browsers (SeaMonkey and Firefox). I had to watch on YouTube. :(
Works in Firefox 115 ESR (Debian unstable) here. It takes a minute or two to load/precalc, though?

And just in case it's not 100% obvious: we didn't make this as a trick to emotionally manipulate the voters into giving us yet another golden duck. I mean, that kinda did happen, but it's not the reason we made this.
This is made as our love-letter to the Danish scene, TRSAC, TBC... and Cheesy in particular. We love you Hans!
TBC DVD Experience is a classic, for all the right reasons. But it's old, and the world needed a higher fidelity version. And when poking at that, we found out that there were more languages, so we just had to lean into that a bit ;)
We originally wanted to release this last year, when the original turned 20 years old... But we didn't even come close. And even this time, with something like 1.5 years of off-again/on-again production time, we still missed the deadline by a long shot, driving Puryx crazy by not handing in the release until just as the compo was starting. I think the risk payed off in the end, because two hours earlier, the last minute of the demo was entirely static. But thank again for bearing with us, Puryx!
Seeing this on the big screen, with smoke, lights and the crowd dancing was awesome. It was even better received than what we hoped for, and seeing that is for sure one of the highlights of my scene career!
A final version will come, but we need to rest a bit more before we're getting onto that. The demo has too many imperfections that shouldn't be too much work to fix. And then we can finally close the book on this years long chapter.

Yes, the loading-times are awful. That's my fault.
The primary reason for that is mostly that all the animations are baked as mesh sequences, because getting stencil shadows working on top of GPU skinning without geometry shader support (ugh WebGL) proved tricky and time-consuming. So we're loading and generating shadow-caster geometry from all the meshes, and that's sadly pretty slow.
It should be possible to do it without the baking, but we ran out of time trying to get that to work, and it was holding back the artwork. Oh well.
We're not planning on fixing this for the final version, though...

The legend returns! This was such an awesome unexpected surprise at TRSAC! The original demo is legendary on TRSAC. Every year at TRSAC whenever the original comes on the big screen, everyone gets on the dance floor. And now we have an epic followup to the legendary demo!!! *heart icon*
