deserved more than last place...

Last tap demo. Ironically, it also ranked last in the compo and I'm still a bit upset about it, although I usually don't pay much attention to compo results.

Still, since this already happened for the second time in a row, it makes me think whether or not I'm just wasting my time for nothing with things likes these. As a first conclusion, I decided to let the group(haha) rest in peace for a decade or something and take a break from the active demoscene. But I'll be back, don't you worry. :)

(note, this does not work properly on radeons...)

Off.

Well yeah, really sad that it was fucked up during the Compo. It was shown afterwards again (this time un-fekked) but well everyone already left the hall.

Ok, some words from me. When I watched the demo on my radeon I saw some bugs. After a driver-update sume bugs were fixed and the demo looked quit good. In the compo the demo was shown second and orgas didn't noticed that it wasn't shown correctly. After the compo when most people left the hall, it was shown again. Tomaes has coded this demo on his GF, a GF4Ti was used in the compo-pc and there the demo was really buggy - maybe too old drivers. So there are two big points, why this demo got only so few points. A third point is the strange style - people seem to like real-world-flybys more than this. Maybe Tom is ahead of the times...

this demo has some cool aspects to it. I like the cartoons and the talking bubbles were great :) Some parts leaves me wondering if it is running correctly on my machine though. Most of it was good enough for a thumb anyway.

Not a bad demo, atleast not bad enough for a last place...

spengler: at the moment you have a voting-average of -0.46. What do you want to see?
I love TAP demos like Nil, Tame and Formulars. Mybe too short but very nice. Dear Tomaes, maybe do not focus only on german demoscene parties....hmmm ????

Well, thanks for the comments so far.

Maybe I should give some background info, so you can better understand why tap demos look the way they look. ;) The past 3 demos have been based on some experimental demo effects generator I started to code about 1.5 years ago in order to learn some D3D. This little piece of obscure software is, was and will ever be plagued by a shitload of bugs and inflexibel structure. That means, the set of features (and possibilities of interaction between them) is in fact very limited and top of that even very confusing. In other words: It's freaking hard to get anything sensible out of the thing. :) And that's also the reason why there is hardly any timing, layering (to sum it up: direction) in those demos.

And yes, despite all the problems it has, I regard this one as the best I could do with that old code. New stuff will come at the end of the year. :)

If that was really what it's supposed to look like, i'm not at all surprised it's not popular :)

Actually, i thought this was one of the best releases at evoke this year. Good work tomaes!

Oh yes, there is a bug in the startup code... if i select geforce card, it tries to run on the shitty onboard card and fails... run it on the shitty onboard, and it fires up on the geforce and runs fine.

TAP demos are very weird styles, but deserves some bit of thumb.

I need some rest from the scene too. Why am I hear downloading all Evoke releases with my shitty conncetion? Last times I spend whiole days with asm2003 ones. Heh ;)

Doesn't work on either computer...
Athlon XP 1700+, Radeon 8500, Catalyst 3.4, 512MB, Win2k
Athlon 550, TNT2, Detonator 13.01, 128MB, Win98
Hopper, replace the tnt2 with a gf2/3/4 and the detonator 13.01 with a > 43 one, and everything should work fine... with some fortune that is. ;) (I know, the terrible incompatibility sucks ass... maybe I do a radeon fix, whenever I get hold of such a card).

I admit, I didn't particularly enjoy watching this demo, but I think the style and originality deserves respect.

Last place, wtf? Different and nice one man show! :)
rulez added on the 2007-08-25 18:01:22 by StingRay StingRay
Wtf. Just now I'm reading all those comments again. Thanks. :)

(A new one man show might be in order, if only to crash compo machines and annoy the crap out of madenmann again :P)

I'm looking forward to seeing that one! :)
