- demo ZX Spectrum VOID by Invaders
- The overall concept represents a surprising departure into dystopian tech noir genre. Though it could use a bit more pace I recognize the technical challenge arising from the humble amount of memory and the need for on-the-fly decompression. The combination of Academy-like renderer and bitmap backdrops feels refreshing. It doesn't feel like a half-assed effort and the thumbs up is well deserved.

@Baze how did you come up with the texture generation algorithm? I'm trying to wrap my mind around the
Code:trick :)rcl dh,cl
Right, if I remember correctly the RCL was just something that generated usable pseudo-random values inside DH register because Carry flag introduces a "random" bit and CL is automatically decremented by LOOP so it rotates the "random" value differently every iteration. The texture generator is pretty basic. It averages two pixels but also adds a small random value and places the result on the next scanline. I used NOT BH to mirror one of the texture coordinates in the process because the image must wrap nicely and look seamless. - isokadded on the 2018-12-03 23:06:59

still slow >10 years later!
but still very good looking for 256b as well =)
Insider note: I had to make it intentionally slow because a) it took less bytes, b) the number of iterations it takes to calculate the surface intersection is used for the illusion of lighting :) It is possible to increase the speed by a factor of 3 just by manipulating a single constant in the code but visually it would suffer. Thanks for all the positive replies, it's been quite a while already. - rulezadded on the 2017-03-28 09:49:55

- Solid and unabashedly blocky effort :) I was very pleased to meet Tygrys at the party place, we had a good chat. It takes a lot of effort to put something together whether you win or not and that is appreciated. I liked the design direction on this one, it feels purposeful and not simply cobbled together.

- Now that is what I call a well deserved win... and kudos for finishing it at the party which is the hardcore demo coder way :)
