- demo Windows Cybernet by Eldorado
- I was really anticipating to see a production from 'the other side of the earth' (Japan), so I watched Cybernet very carefully (so this is gonna be a long post :-)
True, the resolution is small, watching Cybernet on a 17" monitor is not pleasing because the pixels are huge :-) The code has some very minor bugs, specificaly some black flashing pixels in the white horizon of the first part, as well as the tunnel/tube part, where the wrapping texture is not connected very well and some black lines appear. The code runs fast, though. The effects are not original, but they have something different about them that I cannot explain with words.
The music is quite good, it has an oldskool feel to it. It would be alot better though, if it had higher quality samples, especially for the pads(strings) and hihats. Also, the music is absolutely monophonic. With a little stereo separation it would be super (Fast Tracker does that for breakfast). Some panning effects would be nice too.
The graphics are pretty simple as are the fonts. I can already hear some folks screaming that this is a coder production :-) Anyway, the graphics and colors need more work! Some fonts especially don't look good at all.
As for the design, there are transitions and there are interference effects (which I liked very much). If they were tighter to the music with better synchronisation, this prod would rock! I can see why this happened, obviously the musician is at the other side of the planet, so colaboration was not easy! :-) The various parts last long (and become boring) and they seem to follow the change of the module patterns, which is not very imaginative.
With all these problems I mentioned above, I *like* this prod. I like it because it's different as I was expecting. And I want to see more. Japanese guys have a future in the demoscene and I want to see it! If you take into account that this is a first production, then it rulez! :-)
thom: I know what you mean, but you could be a little more constructive, not to mention sensitive with people's first productions imho! :-)
Finally, why do you use lzh/lha packing? Is that popular in Japan? :-)

- Are you kidding me? This ROCKS! :-) Windowsmasher is the best tune hands down!
Some people at my work DARE play greek pop music. This is what I play to make them stop! :-P - rulezadded on the 2001-11-19 10:45:16
- demo Windows initialize by Nah-Kolor [web]
- The bad news is that this is a complete 3d ride. Not only that, some parts repeat themselved frequently too. The good news is that this is intentional, the whole demo is like an experimental-industrial video clip. The music is awesome, the colors, textures and objects fit right with it. Overall it has a dark atmosphere that gets the feeling through. Good work! :-)

- The 3d part should have been left out. Some effects are pretty nice, some graphics could use a little more work. The music totaly owns! :-)

- demo Windows demopunk by Marshals
- Reminds me of the Amiga look-we-can-do-many-many-colors era, with the shifting background gradients... Overall the colors are like the ones I would choose (that's bad, trust me :-) There is a focus around drugs all around. I liked the small blue windows that appear here and there as well as the music which is kinda cool. Finally, it seems original and I think that is good.

- demo Amiga OCS/ECS 9 Fingers by Spaceballs [web]
- A classic Amiga demo, a brilliant idea (code-wise), a highly underrated prod here in pouet and a definate thumbs up...

- 64k Windows sonnet by Threestate
- Sonnet is impressive for its size. Of course it needs to pre-calculate its guts before starting... Also it lasts quite long. The work is very good though. Design is quite nice, only some colors could be better. If you absolutely hate 3d-fly-bys, stay away, and don't listen to it with headphones as I did because the stereo separation sucks! :-) Oh, and speaking of music, some vibratos/tremolos would make the music so much smoother...
Anyway, I liked it. - rulezadded on the 2001-11-15 04:31:42
- demo Windows CheapDemo by Razor 1911 [web]
- This is the split-personality demo... Has a totaly oldskool music, playing at SB ver.1 quality and kicks off with a series of really oldskool effects, things that an Amiga 500 could do easily. Then you have some more 'impressive' effects which are some years 'younger' than the first ones... The whole design is like "PCs have demos too (1992)"
Watch this only for 'educational' purposes (see above) :-) - isokadded on the 2001-11-14 03:35:39
- intro Windows Marsik by Razor 1911 [web]
- Interesting colors and 'ok' music. The effects are nothing new or exciting, the design is missing and (oh yes) it's boring. It does not suck however. :-)
