• The reason for this dirty messup with the desktop/start button is that I don't create a window, I just get the device context for the entire screen and draw directly into it. On the one hand, whatever windows cover the screen won't get invalidated when the intro ends, and on the other hand, windows that do invalidate during the time when the intro runs will disrupt the intro. Try running the intro while having Chrome maximized :)
  It's a dirty hack, but it saves so many bytes by omitting a call to CreateWindowExA.

  No, really. That's new for me as well, but considering all those ugly hacks in the intro, I have no doubt that it won't work on some systems. You could try to debug it youself if you want, compile it with yasm. Source is included.

• Mind the platform: windows and crinkler :) not Ms-Dos. I'm sure you can fit much more if you do PE stuff and library loading yourself instead of using crinkler, but crinkler is just simply comfortable.
