- 64k Windows This Way 64k by Stravaganza [web]
- on the one hand, decent design + direction (a lot better than most 64ks) and music (a bit tinny sounds tho). on the other hand, it's more like the original looks like a 64k than this looks like a demo.. =)
would have been a really great 64k 2 years ago when the demo came out, but the bar's shifted now imo.
looking forward to your next new prod. - isokadded on the 2005-04-19 10:19:54

- demo Windows 195/95 by Plastic [web]
- perhaps this is the way pc demos really should look these days.
however, im not convinced on the quality of all the models (apart from the few models of people it seems quite generatorish, even), and someone wise told me that you should never trust it when everything is just envmapped, it smells of being too lazy to texture it all. =) also, taking the maps from devebec, using nice but fixed lighting calcs that really limits how much can move (and not attempting any tricks to get around it), a lot of stuff which is basically "standard" ms/ati/nvidia example shaders and fx..
it adds up to a demo which is really beautiful as a series of stills, but has some limitations overall. i'd like to see you take it further and do something really _clever_ and new next time.
oh, very good music and 2d gfx. - rulezadded on the 2005-04-17 13:05:17
- 64k Windows death and taxes by Fairlight [web]
- i guess its up to you if you choose for some moral reason to watch the 64k compo version not the 68k fixed version (which fixes a lot of stuff.. makes cube scene run a lot better, fixes the problems on the walk anim, tidies up a lot of stuff). the main reasons it's larger are a) i put back the setup dialog, caps checking, loading bar, actual working shutdown code and other "niceties" ;) and b) used better versions of e.g. the samples in the tune.
in fact, a bit more work would have seen it in 64k, but because the really fucked up version got leaked we had to replace it asap. sorry. =)

- 64k Windows death and taxes by Fairlight [web]
- as stated, this is the one we uploaded on sunday morning to "get in the compo system", it totally didnt work (LOADS of bugs). it should never have been spread by the organisers, it was uploaded apparently by accident. we spent the day fixing it and made it to the compo with a better version. that was still dodgy, so i fixed a better one again this week, which is getting uploaded now.
hope you can judge it on that, not the one that should never have been spread.

- musicdisk Windows Hugi Special Edition #2: Hugibox volume 1 by Hugi [web]
- normally i wouldnt be so bothered about a throwaway tune, but adok's arrogance just irritates me incredibly much that i didnt want to be associated with any hugi crap again.
it's not just a common thing to do to ask permission to reuse something, it's a basic polite and common sense thing to do whether you know anything about scene etiquette or not (i.e. you'd have to have the social skills of a complete fuckwit to miss it).
of course, if you're just some asshole trying to boost your own fame off the back of other's work, then perhaps asking permission is a bad idea.
also, most people, when told that somebody was unhappy with how their work was used, would be at least a bit apologetic about it, rather than reacting with your characteristic pathetic arrogance shown here.
adok, remember: in the scene, people's creative work is the most important thing. they own it, and they always choose how it should be used - i.e. you ask permission. whether it's gfx for a demo or music for a diskmag or whatever, the author has direct control over how and when the work is used. i'd expect even someone from my own demogroup, who i actually like, to ask permission before using one of my old tunes in a prod.
if i remember, i did that track for hugi 11 because you asked me to directly, and it was intended only for that. you act like you paid for the work, or else that i should somehow be desperately grateful for it's inclusion in hugi. in reality, you should be incredibly grateful for anyone who took the time to contribute something, and treat it with the utmost respect, especially if it's deemed good enough to actually use.
finally if i had actually been asked whether i wanted my tune in this, i'd have said "no". which is preeetty much the acid test of whether it was right to use it, isnt it.
