- demo Windows Pornstars by Carillon & Cyberiad [web]
- I liked codename chinadoll more, this one was a bit murky even for my tastes. but lots of respect anyway, demos like this are pushing the envelope of design and editing in demos, instead of rehashing 10-year old patterns.

- demo Windows Adrenalin by Smash Designs [web]
- Yes, the models obviously represent a lot of hard work, no argument there. But apart from the modelling effort which seems to approach mechanical engineering levels of pedantic precision, this demo has the worst graphics I've seen in a demo in a long time. Any "Stuff you need to know about 3d" tutorial would tell you that a nice model can be utterly destroyed by ugly textures and bad lighting, and this is a prime example.
Then there's endless camera flybys, seemingly random editing, and utterly generic music with voice samples that sound like they were found on some leftover C-cassette of an 80's producer. It all combines to create an absurd level of drabness.
Quite honestly (flame away), there seems to be something particularly German about this production. Like Scooter's music is supposed to be 'happy' or 'uplifting' yet has the exact opposite effect, this is a demo about an amusement park that completely fails to amuse. And thus this demo ends up being some sort of metaphor of a profound emptiness underlying our lives - "you can try your best to fight it but you will only end up feeling it even more acutely" seems to be the message.
For that reason, I can't thumb this down; intentionally or probably not, it has become depressing to the point of art. - isokadded on the 2002-04-19 00:50:34
- 64k Amiga PPC/RTG Planet Potion by Potion
- Oh my god!
This is fucking cool, everything flows very well, the factory scene that ends part 1 kicks some elitebrausch ass.. part 2 is an extravaganza of commercial 90's design but, combined with that kickass vocoder/speechsynth, a huge pleasure as well :)
So since it's already PowerPC, how about porting it to Mac OS X? I'd kill (well almost) to watch this on my Mac :)

- demo Linux MS-Dos Windows State Of Mind by Bomb
- This is one of those demos I just never 'got' (in the sense "it's ok, but why is it so popular?"), along with vip2... both have stolen music but that's not really what bothers me so much, I guess it's just some kind of stylistic coherence that they lack in my eyes.

- ok, this is a good start, more votes please, this needs to be at least #3 in the current top ten ;)

- I haven't voted for this?
I should because it's fabulous. - rulezadded on the 2002-03-19 19:46:28
- demo MS-Dos Unreal by Future Crew
- wow, that finnish interview represents finnish tv entertainment in its purest form - it's like a rainy day funeral with four people present and they're embarassed because they can barely remember the dead guy's name.
but it's cool to have the divx version... this is of course a milestone demo for the pc scene. seeing the "worldvector" again reminds how amazing it was, and the tunes are still nice to listen to and thoroughly familiar (annoying how short they are cut in the demo, though).
phoenix: you're right, the "let's kick some balls" line is missing... well, for FC the PC scene apparently meant "Politically Correct" as well... - rulezadded on the 2002-03-19 18:30:52
- demo Amiga OCS/ECS ARTE by Sanity
- The best A500 demo, I guess. "No AGA" is kind of like "no 3d acceleration!" today, although the latter makes significantly less sense...
Anyway, it's brilliant, packed with great graphics, cute spheres and fancy zoomers.
Hempest, I have to disagree on that ugly palettes thing, this is the height of '93 demo fashion, the eponymous purple backgrounds and all =) (Majic 12's Show being the pc equivalent..) - rulezadded on the 2002-03-18 19:52:13
- 40k MS-Dos/gus Paula Faked by jamm
- still can't help but to love that dopey whale, and the mindbending chip mayhem soundtrack by Mordicus. this is the production where Jamm added the second 'm' to their name...
btw this got eighth because there wasn't an intro compo at abd'94 so it competed in the demo compo. - rulezadded on the 2002-03-16 18:27:25
