- Hey Loaderror!
The problem with david lynch movies is that close to nobody understands anything at all. Besides that, of course, great idea! I personally dig that david lynch style quite a lot. But mezcal is right in that case: this is the demoscene, not a bunch of philosophers.
Concerning the hourglass, you're right of course. Funny thing is, it's very difficult to find one nowadays. We went to ~10 different shops and asked for one, but people still think that digital watches are a pretty neat idea indeed ;)
I very much agree with gargaj, thank you for your comment. i really overreacted, also due to other things that happened at this year's breakpoint.
So, i thought a lot of all your comments and the feedback i got in general, and i came to that conclusion:
1. i'm sorry for my accusations. of course demoscene-projects are about the personal taste of sceners :)
2. expect nothing next time. I'm going back to the roots, so i'll just do what i'm feeling like, without any regard to predictions of "taste" whatsoever. Thus, maybe many people will hate my next prod, but i'm okay with that. It will be different though.
Some words about acting: faith improved a great deal since out back into. i think you should honor that the same as you do the progress of several coders that are around in the demoscene.

- hmm..."'thinking about life' is one thing, expressing your thoughts through pretentious kitsch is another. each sequence is so completely overstaged, theatrically imposed and dramatized down to the obvious phoney, killing all subtlety of the idea, while recycling each and every cliché motif there is (gun, hourglass, door). teenage scene poetry as moving image ..."
i found out with "out back into" that sceners don't understand subtle metaphors (thinking of the cave in the last part). thus, memorize your future was really "simple", and with this prod i found a compromise of both.
I can talk over an hour about possible interpretations (already did so), it's really not that simple, but it offers these "klischees" so that all those "dumb" sceners might be able to understand a little more.
if i had done it more david lynch style, i'm somehow pretty sure everybody had begun whining about how "it doesn't make sense" and "it lacks a message" or "being completely confusing and pointless".
delax: i did not expect to do a party smasher, and i'm well aware of the project's weaknesses. i just don't like all those fucking morons on pouet posting their inconstructive unreflected crap, and forcing me to wonder "is it true what they say?"
i know it's nothing new, and it's the nature of pouet, and i'm just these days too weak to ignore it, so i senselessly fight back.

- <quote>Looks to me it's a rushed thingy</quote>
It's definitely not rushed - but I had too many problems with this production. Most of them because of blender3d (crappy piece of unfinished software - but it's free, and the renderers are okay). The 3d stuff required impossible acts of faking and re-faking, and i'm not at all satisfied with it (anybody seen ice age 2?).
And yeah, I begin to get the point.
The demoscene wants obvious effects-work and shits on stuff like scenery, emotion, symbols, technical professionalism and storytelling. I just learned and improved the wrong skills for this production.
In the consequence, I think I have to allow overexposure, messed up colors and all other kinds of inperfection back in, spare myself a few weeks work and give you some in-your-face sync effects again instead of trying to create something bigger and deeper...
