- demo MS-Dos Shattered Minds by Byterapers [web]
- Not one but two selfthumbs! Impressive. Lemme deliver the compensatory thumb down real quick... :p
The demo itself was enjoyable, but felt empty and uninspired at times. They might have been good technically, but not really interesting; thankfully, a tight soundtrack tied it together sufficiently well so that it didn't fall apart. - sucksadded on the 2018-08-23 00:06:29

Although it is obviously a one trick pony, it feels like a small, cute piece of art, that can stand for itself. I especially like the music and how it melts all together into one.
This. Easily one of my favorite 4ks, and I'm more than sure it will age better than most of them owing to the strengths of its concept and a rendering choice that fits the task so well it defies technical obsolescence—by the virtue of not needing anything more. Unlike e.g. Sonnet (the venerable granddaddy of changing-seasons-themed intros like this or last year's Cycle of Nature), a fact I lamented back in 2011 in its comment thread. - rulezadded on the 2018-08-22 21:34:31

- A solid sense of aesthetics and confidence in presentation successfully covers the fact that it has very little content. And that's absolutely a good thing. I'd rather watch one or two simple but well-done and pleasant scenes than something that has lots of stuff going on but ultimately makes me want to stop watching. So definitely a good job there, both of you. :p

- Sweet. Apparently one of the guys from that band is Hiroyuki Nanba, whose Armitage III soundtrack was one of my go-to examples of solid anime music for a good while, along with (the more obvious but no less talented) Yoko Kanno and Kenji Kawai. I'll give it a listen or two, thanks. :)
As for this track in particular, the only part I found possibly a bit odd is the sequence at 2:26. It's a bit drier than the rest... or something like that, hard to explain since I suck at music theory. Makes it fall out of the composition a bit for me. The rest is great though. - isokadded on the 2018-08-22 20:29:22

- Awesome, guys, congrats on your well-deserved vict...

...Oh fuck you, Evoke. Fuck you in your useless eyesockets. :|
Anyway, this might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it sure hits all the right marks. It's gorgeous, technically sound, poetic, and paced well. All in 8k. I loved it! I'd rewatch it again and again and show to my friends. None of the other prods managed to do so well being four to eight times the size. What a crying shame!
By the way, I expected the nautilus and other sea inhabitants to turn into some kind of constellations at the end, but the odd angular doodle things left me confused. Please explain. :) Was that due to the lack of... space? (Shit, I swear that was unintentional.) The music also felt very reminiscent of Dropletia which, curiously, also was released at Evoke. Same instruments, I suppose? Or was it a deliberate development of that general idea? - rulezadded on the 2018-08-22 19:09:36

- I'm with Gargaj on this one. It feels like wasted potential and is all the more frustrating because of it. BeRo, please find a designer/director who could put your skills and ideas to good use and fit things together so that they work well. :(

- It has the repetitiveness of a rave demo but not enough visual continuity nor confidence in editing to pull it off. Which is a shame. But the visuals are mostly pretty and the track is ace and carries the rest regardless, so a thumb.
Quote:I like how you can nearly tell which part was done by whom. Nice collaboration work folks. :)
To be fair, that's not usually a sign of a successful collaboration. :p - rulezadded on the 2018-08-22 18:34:18

- Man, that's a lot of content. Good-looking, sensible, thematic content. Truly inspiring.
And you even had bytes to spare! Any chance for a final with some finishing touches to fill up the remaining space? :) - rulezadded on the 2018-08-22 18:20:56

- The "we ran out of time" intro. :) Barely pulled through by the end though.
