- intro Wild Planet 5200 by Desire [web]
- Some informations what made it more challenging than first thought.
Atari 5200 has 16k RAM, 32K Cart rom, small BIOS which can not be switched off, NTSC only.
Challenges:
- 32k ROM space must hold code, music and graphics plus data. Everone coded Voxels know that most challenge is the data size at least if you want to make it fast (precalced data like map, texture and speed code).
- Raster Music Tracker for POKEY was written to run from RAM, not ROM.
- video ram (double buffer), scroller, voxel map & texture placed in RAM due to dynamic nature. now make your math you only have $0000-$3fff including ZP, stack and BIOS pointers which can not be moved.
- BIOS friendly code (yeah... long time since I did that on Atari 800 platform)
- no (!) self modifing code allowed as base code is placed in ROM cart space $4000-$bfff.
- Perlin Noise generator needs to write directly texture and heightmap as no space for additional buffers.
in the end it was planned to take 1 day to do that intro and in the end it took nearly 3 weeks total. as usual demo coding experience :D
@Axis
Yeah... finally at least... but we both know that there is still something in the pipe concerning Voxels ;) - isokadded on the 2015-05-17 18:06:40
- intro Wild Planet 5200 by Desire [web]
- I know it belongs to 5200 forum (will post there, too) but here is my first Atari 5200 NTSC intro:
Code: Heaven & Popmilo
Music: Triace
Grafics: Bokanoid and Hammerfist
Voxelmap & texture generated by Perlin Noise.
@Krill. It's not based on yours used in Artefacts. This one was coded by popmilo. Generates each few seconds new height and texture.
The voxel rendered was based on researched and discussions with Axis of Oxyron while we both coded Voxels. Thx. - isokadded on the 2015-05-17 10:49:32
