- Starts with some very low-framerate graphics (on my Nexus 5, Android 5.1), then dies with: “C:\Users\Stian\Documents\Corona Projects\fastgamedev\main.lua: attempt to index global 'backdrop' (a nil value)”

- 8k Windows 8K Reality by Fulcrum [web]
- Fun historical fact: In the early 2000s, we were a small group of people who tried to do exactly this… only in 64k. We spent a fair amount of time looking at screencaps of the various effects and figuring out how to get them to look visually indistinguishable (this was before any reasonable capture was available, and of course also before the source came out), drawing maps of the city, etc.. I think we concluded that it _could_ be done in 64k, but we were not sure, and it would be so much work that the project just faded away and died. And then you guys come and do it in 8k :-)

- demo JavaScript Genesis by Zomgtronics
- Best concept of compo; it feels like a coherent package, in a way most of the other ones failed to. Could easily have won.

- Awesome stuff. The idea of merging greetings into the intro itself feels fresh and nice.

- I can't say I understand the unequivocal praise of this documentary. Leaving aside the heavy Hungarian focus (at times it feels much more like a documentary about the Hungarian demoscene than the demoscene) and the disturbing accent in the voiceovers (I've only seen the English version, linked from the YouTube link here), a lot of this is just not very well done.
In particular, the camera work is straight-up poor at times; someone thought it would be really cool to zoom randomly in and out during interviews. What the heck? Lighting and exposure is often poor; OK, that's maybe because people are interviewed in random places. A lot of the shots are shaky; that's just bad planning (if you're making a documentary, bring a tripod). People are introduced way out of order, often talking a lot before there's a name on the screen.
There are good things too, of course: The demos shown are well captured and is a varied selection, and the color work, although a bit bland, seems to be pretty consistent throughout the documentary. Also, naturally, creating 90 minutes of video is a huge amount of work. But for me, as a documentary this doesn't warrant more than a piggie; there are too many obvious weaknesses in the craftsmanship. - isokadded on the 2014-08-16 15:55:51
