- This demo felt like a proof of concept rather than a finished work. The scenes don't really work well together; some have almost-excessive (Excess-ive?) postpro while the others are disturbingly clean as if taken straight from 2004 or so. The water shader is older than my grandma, and I'm reasonably sure I saw better textures in 64ks from the previous decade (seriously, what happened there?). The music did nothing at all for me, either; I don't think high-tempo strings work well with the kind of content you're presenting.
That being said, the forest scene probably could've made the demo alone if it had received a proper visual and sound design and the directorial treatment of Texas or The Ballet Dancer (both of which I love very much). Missed opportunity right there! - isokadded on the 2018-09-11 15:57:30

- I like that it works as a stylistic counterpart for the recent 64k Cassini by Faemiyah which tackled a similar subject: where Cassini tried to be more of a documentary, Alone eschews realism for a more stylized approach. That ultimately proves to be both its strong and weak points, as it becomes repetitive already by the end of the first half. Not to the point where it becomes annoying, but certainly to the point where it starts noticeably dragging on with nothing to show for it technically. The awesome soundtrack does help alleviate the feeling, but not entirely. So a very weak thumb.
By the way, Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot speech the phrases were taken from was made in response to a photo taken by Voyager 1, but the probe featured was Voyager 2... Is there any explanation for this? :p - rulezadded on the 2018-09-10 13:17:58

- It's a solid effort but I couldn't help thinking that fractal geometry is annoying and that showing off reflections without shadows should be considered bad form by this point. Well, at least the fractal use was moderate here. It's also a shame the final scene just ended abruptly without really going anywhere; I do like the camera work in general and the direction of the first half a minute or so. Regarding the music, it felt like the composition was deserving of better-sounding instruments.

- Looks and sounds awful, but manages to entertain. Would have been an instant thumb up if it were an original story. Perhaps it would be more suited for 8k where you would have enough space to polish things. Or was that just the lack of time?
