Hah, yes, I agree and I'm very aware of all of those things. There is nothing to hide behind with a "real world" image so all those little things really stand out. I'm happy with what I made though. I like to try things that are a bit different, which I think it is. I still think it has a lot of nice qualities and I played with the ideas I wanted to.
I'm usually guilty of some quirky, niche technical self indulgence rather than making something simpler and more accessible and that is the case here.
The end result is quite different from what I originally had in mind which was to focus more on the cobbles, with more interesting, varied lighting on them, framing a single puddle reflecting something interesting and maybe a drain cover with a design on it. Sticking with that would have been simpler and probably have worked out with a better, more crowd pleasing composition.
However, the process of making it took me in a different direction with the city skyline becoming more prominent. With it becoming harder to wrangle as the complexity grew, ultimately with other more important life commitments I just ran out of time and space to do a lot of those small changes that would have helped the end result. - rulezadded on the 2022-04-21 12:41:51
