So they just used better video codec to reencode the old video, if I'm reading this correctly?
yes. - rulezadded on the 2025-04-21 16:18:13
- 4k Windows Hexer by LJ
- Clever portioning of size (the opening 20-30 seconds is probably responsible for like 70% the size by my guess) and decent storytelling.

- demo Windows JavaScript BREACH by mfx [web]
- Super tight audio, and there's a lot of good motion design, but I feel like the protagonist effect just isn't up to snuff to carry it alone - the demo does the heavy lifting around it, but it feels like all frosting no cake. (And to be fair I empathise, I've probably ended up in that spot more than others.)

- demo Windows This is Us by Exist
- Very confusing demo; there's a ton of good effort here, but the music doesn't fit, there's (probably?) a story but it feels both in-medias-res and unresolved, and then it drops down from 60 to 5fps in the final scene for some reason.
There's some great assetwork here - well above scene average, although there doesn't seem to be any artistic direction like framing or color coherence - and the actual effect part in the middle is excellent, even though it kindof comes out of nowhere and leaves just as quickly.
I get what you were going for - the age old trope of "demo effects make you happy even if life sucks" - but it's a good example why tight and conscious direction is so important to pull something like this off. - rulezadded on the 2025-04-21 13:28:54

- 4k Windows Starseed by LJ & Puryx
- Some brilliant hard-surface modelling / lighting; wasn't too keen on the planet / star visuals, but that's just a taste thing, it was still excellent. Wonderful direction too, understated, not too flashy, just well-rounded enough to tell the story from start to finish.

@Gargaj: If course some music like this was done before. But here it fits perfectly.
That's what I said, yes. - isokadded on the 2025-01-16 19:56:54
- demo Windows PRINT by teadrinker
- The track is great (although not as original of an idea as most people would think) but I feel like the visuals don't quite live up to it; the first third or so has some great ideas, but then it feels to me like it runs out of ideas and the ones it then tries to have don't fit (like the 3D which just doesn't mesh with the rest) and it sorta ends anticlimatically.
There's a lot of good stuff here, don't get me wrong, but it ended up feeling like an unexplored concept. - rulezadded on the 2025-01-15 23:10:20
- intro Windows Best Before 2024 by Fulcrum [web]
- Crash after the amiga ball part fades out and the second, higher pitch melody comes in.
