- ... and by the way, this is derivated from my own Boing2 which you found "Nice !"

... just without the sound, the flat shading, and the boing ;) - isokadded on the 2016-06-15 18:46:36

... anyway, i'd like to add an "aspect corrected" version, which looks even more like the original :

still in 64 bytes, download adjusted accordingly =)- isokadded on the 2016-06-15 18:37:24

- @Saltsurfer : I know all of the above, but our combination of color, music, depth shading and *performance* has not been done before ;) thanks for your feedback anyway =)

- yes, it's samples, basically, and there's shitloads of them ;) same for instruments
as for the "screaming woman", here is how to make her scream in 17b :
Code:db 0x3f,0xc9,56,0x99,53,127 mov dx,0x331 outsb dec dx mov cl,5 rep outsb int 0x20 - isokadded on the 2016-06-12 02:02:43

- code and data for music is about ~50 bytes here. it's not with grabbing a .DLL though, it's really WAY simpler. Just firing some bytes through defined ports (OUT DX,AL) or even directly from memory (OUTSB), with instructions that itself are as small as possible (1 byte). Check my Decent OST for a 64 byte MIDI player, or the wicked 16 byte Crapulousness from Whizart. People still seem to think MIDI is some kind of witchcraft, otherwise every >=128b intro would have music by now :D simple FX are already possible in the 64b category (Ocean )

- Quote:
this is the MSDOS port of "Zoompinski", a 512b intro from "Plush" for C64
the 63 bytes version tries to mimic every, detail (colors, alignment) as close as possible while staying inside the 64b border, because C64 =) Quit via ESCape ;)
the 31 bytes version just tries to stay inside the 32b border, while showing the basic effect, a zooming sierpinksi triangle. to my knowledge this is the first zooming sierpinski effect in the 32b category =)
as a bonus, the smallest animated sierpinski effect i know of, in 10 bytes but without zoom ;) it's derivated from "colpinski" from myself. propz to "frag" from fsqrt for helping me crunch this thing down so hard (y)

- She is paranoid, therefore she is constantly turning around ;) That's understandable, every now and then somebody she never sees opens a door, and closes it again ... until she laughs hysterically ^^
I'd agree to most of the critics, this is pretty bland and the rotation is monotone :/ We didn't have the time for anything better because ...
... on the other hand, it's not the *usual* 256 bytes ray caster. We went for 192 shades (64*pink,blue and white) to make a difference from the standard 64 colors black white. We went for a rendering approach that is actually pretty fast (should even run decent on a 486) instead of bruteforcing each pixel. Of course there is VSYNC and double buffering for maximum smoothness on real oldschool systems. Not to mention we never considerated sizeoptimizing the ESC check and return to textmode out as an option - manners, you know =)
Regarding the sound, nope, it's not random MIDI ;) it's a carefully selected subset of the SFX set with a special pattern, to generate a very defined atmosphere - see the commented source for more details.
All these things do require some space. It sums up. In comparison to the well known Wolf from 1999, "Paranoia" has actual depth (shading) - even if that looks blend - and does NOT use the famous XOR texture, as this has been done too often by now. Also, "Paranoia" has SFX. I'd agree though, that the slightly advanced graphical technical feats do not really add *that* much to the atmosphere. Maybe introducing colors and depth shading raises the expectation too much compared to simple black white XOR textures(?) And maybe rotation let's you expect a good camera-path(?) In short, adding features increases the change for disappointment, as it seemed to have happened here.
So, personally, i find it kind of "meh" that the attempts to break out the usual 256 bytes techniques earns a partial community "meh" in return, although i can reenact almost every opinion stated here.
Still i would say that it's way better to explore new ways in tiny intros than beating dead one trick ponies - even if the "meh" is strong in this one ;) - isokadded on the 2016-06-09 23:46:31

- Both what stingray and Buckethead said. The strangeness (?) of the music earns a weak thumb in my world ;)
