- demo SNES/Super Famicom SNES-NICCC 2000 by Molive
- Thanks for keeping the SNES demoscene alive! I do wonder, however, why it ran barely faster than the similar 3D scenes in e.g. Star Fox 2, especially when the MD version basically ran circles around it later in the compo. Granted, the 68000 in the MD is a beefy piece of silicon, but should it have been that much faster than the 10.7 MHz Super FX in combination with SNES's own 3.6 MHz CPU?

- 4k demo ZX Spectrum Megademica 4K by Serzhsoft
- Sorry if it feels wordy, but I really feel the need to gush all over this product before I go to bed. I normally don't care too much about the Spectrum, or most pre-68000 platforms in general, but this went so, so far above and beyond my expectations I actually ended up considering Megademica my favorite prod of the entire party—which had no shortage of good candidates, to be fair. During the compo I was continually impressed by the amount of different visual content and the excellent track. I even thought it would work just as well as a full-size demo because the concept didn't seem significantly bottlenecked by size; I'm all down for moody demos with lo-fi effects.
And then the second part happened, and I was like, "wait, WHAT?" And it was even better than the first—which was already a solid demo irrespective of the size. Again with an even more excellent track.
And then the ending happened and delivered a hardcore smackdown to what was left of my sanity.
Seriously, thank you so much. This demo raised the bar in so many ways for me as a viewer, and very likely for the other oldskool system 4k producers as well. I think some good comparisons would be what cdak did for the PC 4k scene in 2010 and what fr-08 did for the 64k scene ten years prior: delivering a shocking amount of quality content in a size-limited category. If this doesn't win I'm gonna riot. (And then gonna riot again if it doesn't get nominated for the best oldskool intro or something.)
Out of curiosity, what's the rundown on the space consumed by different parts of the demo? Maybe you could do a small write-up or something? - rulezadded on the 2019-04-22 04:55:12

- This demo rules. Content-wise it is a step forward in many ways, especially in modeling and making some of the most entertaining and cleverly incorporated greetings since Engage (but if you make the final, please consider changing the Conspiracy Theory paper issue number to 23). Some of the scenes were outright breathtaking and showcased incredible attention to detail in trying to make everything look authentic. But I also agree with noby and others as well in terms of direction—the demo indeed feels as if it goes nowhere narratively, so if it doesn't end up first that'd probably be why.
