- Ok, sorry guys I don't want to do this but this is just further downhill from the last couple of releases. You guys have the most amazing engine in the scene but rush the content during the party.
The 3D work is mostly excellent again of course (though I'm seeing some disturbingly low resolution textures) but the camerawork and cutting makes no fucking sense. This is just a meaningless juxtaposition of a realistic (ymmv) city scene with a static plastic looking dude next to some seen-before (albeit cool) DemoObjects™. I could elaborate on more technical shortcomings but I think fizzer & others already covered everything else I had in mind.
I don't usually complain about harsh mixing or lack of dynamic range in music like this but fucking hell the audio is just one messy noise sausage. It was almost unbearable in the hall. - sucksadded on the 2017-04-19 18:25:11
- demo Windows Viianki by The Not Yet Rusty Collective
- The most haunting and beautiful production of the party. The first half of the track might be my favorite piece of music from the party. Same thing with the graphics work on the first half. The scenery—despite being very stylized—are some of the most believable looking outdoors environments ever in the scene. I mean there was actual on-location background research performed for this, and that shows. Not to mention also the character design. I love your style and taste, Aurora.
The latter half and some of the camerawork (whoa slow down!) bring it down a bit, but doesn't take away the sentiment.
Please never stop. - rulezadded on the 2017-04-19 17:39:11

Actually in hindsight this is probably the closest I can think of as far as the feeling both give goes. - isokadded on the 2017-04-19 16:39:38

- By far my favorite in the compo. I'm kinda pissed off I didn't get to make this first. Grrrr.

- 4k Windows Absolute Territory by Prismbeings
- Cupe's reasoning is pretty much spot on (except I obviously don't take a position on how this ranks among other 4k intros). For a good while now—possibly some years—I've been wanting to some extent replicate Ryoji Ikeda's installations (you can query YouTube about those) in realtime. I started to seriously think about it after last Assembly, since it occurred to me current hardware should be more than sufficient for very simple path tracing. You'd essentially just need two infinite planes minimum to execute the concept. Other GI algorithms could maybe work too, but they have their own shortcomings and path tracing is by far the most compact to implement.
Basically I just wanted a cool little lightshow with a twist that's only now starting to be possible; and 4k should be just perfect size for it. And yeah, I knew I couldn't be the only one to think of this (hi ferris) so better just take a whack at it asap and hope everything works out. I'm still in awe of the response to this... - isokadded on the 2017-04-18 23:39:31

- I love stuff that's more out of the box. The flat non-shaded look it surprisingly fresh and contemporary. The music reminds me of SNES, especially the end with the rejuvenation :)

- 4k Windows Ice & Fire by Hoodlum [web]
- Sweet sense of scale (difficult) and faked participating medium. Little more work on the music, artifacts and colors and this would be a serious contender.

- The materials are quite nice. The rest has been repeated ad nauseam already.
