- demo Java Croissant 9 by Bohemiq
- Well, I'm not sure why it won't work on some systems.
I've not run it in a long time, but I've just tried it under Vista Home Premium with the Sun JVM, version 1.6.0_07 (latest currently available), and it worked fine, with music and everything (the croissant9.ogg music file is included in the croissant9 directory so you can play it and see what it's supposed to sound like).
Sounds like it's a configuration issue... It doesn't use the right path (file://Users)... Could be that you cannot run Java applets from the desktop or something (security issues?). Try putting it in a different directory... Perhaps just C:\croissant9 or something.
You could also try to run it in a browser with the included demo.html. Running as an applet works slightly differently from a standalone application. - isokadded on the 2008-09-01 19:03:22

- Fantastic demo, very original... The kind of demo you only find once every few years.

- I like it, I suppose it's one of the few demos of the past few years that is about as crazy, or more crazy than Croissant 9, codewise.
So you have my sympathy :) - rulezadded on the 2006-11-13 19:43:00
- demo Amiga AGA Atari Falcon 030 Starstruck by The Black Lotus [web]
- I think I can thumb this up, on the condition that the next big TBL production is not an Amiga-one (at least not AGA+060).
One the one hand, I think it's hard for TBL to come up with something better next time... I think this is simply the definitive Amiga demo for this era. Better to go out in a blaze of glory then.
And on the other hand, aren't we curious to see what TBL can do on a platform with more power and possibilities?
I'd like to see if they can pull off this kind of style, but in a more polished way, more polys, better shading, and perhaps more effects.
PS2 might be a good platform, I really liked 4 Edges.
Oh, and...

- Oh yea, this was the winamp of the DOS era for me. Listened to a LOT of mods, xms, s3ms etc with this one, and even mp3s lateron.

- Dutch arrogance at its best.
And rightly so, it was the first PC demo that I saw, that didn't look like a PC demo, but more like an Amiga demo. Smooth 3d graphics and nice tracker tune. - rulezadded on the 2006-07-16 14:22:11

- Very nice, Optimus. Much better than the last thing I saw from you, good to see you're evolving.
I really liked the oldskool vibe, good music too. And unlike Rebels 'oldskool' stuff etc, this is actually all software-rendering, written pretty much in the same way as the original effects were intended.
Next stop: 3d acceleration? :) - rulezadded on the 2006-07-16 14:05:23

- How exactly do you draw to the display?
The ony way I figured out in pure MIDP was to build an uncompressed PNG in in memory, and use that as a framebuffer. Sadly you have to run the Adler/CRC algo on it everytime you want to blt it. - isokadded on the 2005-06-19 01:48:37
