- demo Atari ST The B.I.G. Demo by The Exceptions
- How many people have been reading the complete scrolltext hoping for the explanation on how to do the lower border :)
DJF: What you have to consider is that at the time this demo was made, there were absolutely NO good music even made on the ST. All we got was some lame tunes directly ported from 8bits machines, without any effects of any kind. Also, most rasters were wobblings when moving the mouse of pressing a key...
If you put that into perspective, you can probably realise the amount of work this music demo presents:
- a reset demo (it was the first one I saw)
- stable rasters, with some pretty wicked half screen splits
- a huge number of tunes, that fit in a 520st memory
- an incredible digisound player
- low border scroller.
and some effects. they are not particularly impressive today, but just the big scroller in the cave like background is not that easy to make it fit in memory when you have all the other crap in memory at the same time.
So yes, I say respect for all that precursor work.

...but in in term of size none can outrun or equal the power of the Phaleon gigademo
Well, if you consider it was during the oldskoolish period (ie: pre-1993), you can also write it was the most delayed demo ever started :)
Funily if we had wrote that the Phaleon was a 'The Replicants' project, it would have got way more comments I guess... - isokadded on the 2005-12-13 12:49:29

- This kind of product definitively shows that Pouet.net is lacking something: It seems impossible to link this demo to each single group that participated. That's a shame :-/

- I thumb's up other's people work here, not my particular intro that features one of the 6 sine scrollers present in this demo (sigh...).
Definitively a good production, even if I hope that a version 1.1 of the demo with some ironed-out details will be released :) - rulezadded on the 2005-12-12 12:48:03
