- My favourite from the compo. Finally someone's pushing the envelope again.

- 64k Windows JavaScript Domain by 0b5vr
- I must admit I'm growing a bit weary of the scene self referentiality, but the flawless execution on every single front makes it very deserving of praise nevertheless. :)

- 4k Windows The Last Minute by Lucid
- Continuing the legacy of World Ending 4Ks at Deadline, I see. While not as elaborate as the last one there (Waillee) I distinctly remember the feeling of "Whoa" when it started, quickly following by dread. Great attention to detali in everything, especially the colors and the trees.

- demo Windows JavaScript the proud flesh by mfx [web]
- "Visceral" describes it best, and the wait for a Ballet Dancer successor was definitely worth it. :)
Also interesting how this has that certain "MFX in the 2000s" look (just modernized) albeit running on a completely different engine. There's just something unique about how uncle-x goes about visuals. - rulezadded on the 2021-10-19 18:44:42
- demo Windows Inversion by Rebels
- What ps said basically. I think the issue that I have is not the early 2000s style per se but that I miss some "certain je ne sais quoi", some contextualization or stylistic elements that would elevate it above a mere rehash of effects, albeit with more GPU. Same with the soundtrack - it certainly shows Vincenzo's prowess, but it doesn't really go anywhere. Solid piggie this time.

- They grow up so fast *sheds boomer tear*
Perhaps a bit too introverted for the general party populace, visuals as well as music wise, and a bit hurried in places (most notably that repeating background texture, sorry everyone not able to unsee it now), but there's absolutely nothing wrong with a demo that "just" wants to present beauty to the viewer, and this little gem has hands down the best color work I've seen in the last years in the scene, I love the detail of the visuals, and that track is a total banger (if you're into the style). Definitely the highlight of Deadline for me. - rulezadded on the 2021-10-19 18:26:24
- demo MS-Dos/gus cöncept by Ümlaüt Design [web]
- I don't think this demo is either mindless pandering aka the downfall of the demoscene as-is, or in the same vein as Piledriver. On the contrary. I love how intimately personal and authentic it is - a genuine expression of an author who always wanted to make this, even if it's 20 years late.
It's not screaming "hey scene, look at me!", it just is what it is.
And as a demo itself it easily keeps up with the Replays and Haujobbs of yore. The soundtrack, while not entirely up to eg. Radix' level of proficiency and detail, fits perfectly and sticks in your mind for days, and the visuals and direction not only evoke that end-90s feel but also, personally, are welcome in the current times for how gentle they are :) - rulezadded on the 2021-09-17 17:31:19

However, let me assure you this isn't "made up" or "a game" to me. You're free to think I'm a raving lunatic who's wrong about exactly everything, but my intention is sincere. I'm not here to troll or post flamebait or derail something for shits and giggles, as the expression goes. Discussions like these take a lot of time and energy for me and I wouldn't spend it if I didn't think these things mattered.
At least the last sentence is a thing that we can agree on. So I'm going to assume your intentions are sincere, spare us both the energy that goes into these long comments, and only highlight one specific statement of yours:
Quote:There's a pattern of people swooping in to take turns in making the most malicious interpretations possible of something written or created with no ill intent
Ok, first: Whataboutism. But that's not the point.
The point is that this again, this time probably unintended, describes yourself. Because from your opening statement on ("narrative of marginalization") you made it very clear that _you_ were not going to assume the slightest bit of sincerity, and in fact went for making the most malicious interpretation possible of the text. There's not a single example you stated where you didn't deliberately and explicitly twist the meaning of the words, or even created a malicious interpretation of them out of thin air or, granted, out of "patterns" you think you've seen elsewhere (which sound an awful lot like stuff you haven't actually _seen_ but rather kept being told about btw).
So, regardless of political stance, (and yes, this is a thing I'm also occasionally struggling with): How about next time you live up to your own standards.
