I would buy that if I know what it was :P
*knew
That whole convoluted group deal thing seems like, more or less, an instance of madness.
So sometimes the software costs... $1195, and other times, it costs... $40. Depending on... what day it is, basically. Also you don't get anything if the whole group deal doesn't "work out", whatever strange condition that means.
Well money is madness anyway, so that's what you get when you rely on it.
If they want to really promote their software, why not give it away for free? Instead they ask for 10 dollars? (They don't seem to expect to make that much money off it anyway when the almost start giving it away.)
What's the point with the 10 bucks? Is that a symbolic amount? $10 is a lot for some people and for others it's nothing. Once again: What's the point?
Strange stuff :]

Looks like the messiah:studio group buy made its goal after all.
Asking $10 (or $40) for their software swells their potential userbase considerably, and it's good promotional fodder; also a stunt like this nets them a shitload of quick cash, community goodwill and promotional attention. They might also be doing a juicy new release of the software soon (Native Instruments did this with Komplete 5) and a big userbase means at least some of them are going to upgrade. It's a shotgun approach but if the software's good, it works.
Some companies ARE giving their stuff away for free in certain circumstances - Plastic Animation Paper is doing their paper-style cel animation software for free for instance.

I would buy it, but I spent all my money on this.
what´s up? i think it's a cool experiment and i know a couple of scener who bought it, just because the animation features are great.
this is a marketing campaign, sure. but hey, you end up with a great tool for a few bucks, good deal.

I bought it, not because I have much need for it ATM, but it's fun to play with. The INSANE offer is valid for another 14 hours btw..
Vibrator: if you'd cared to read the page, they explain the point quite well.

only osx and ms-windows versions available, when most of the irix users (the ones worked on 3d animation seriously years ago) migrated to linux - this is very interesting... :(
@k-bird - Plastic Animation Paper is ms-windows only, and doesn't run fine on Wine... :(
also purchased :) thanks gb!
The price looks fair....but for me, its just another 3d something tool.
Most people think of "3d animation" when you tell them you animate "something"....

exin: Yes, it's horrible how the noble art of hand-drawn 2D animation is no more - quite relevant to the thread I think too - nobody creates real art anymore.
It's not the tool, it's what you do with it that counts.
And I'm really surprised by this thread, I totally thought it was spam :) (well, it is, but not regular spam if you get what I mean).

psonice: Yeah, the topic was really spammy, but I had heard about the deal elsewhere so that helped. :)
gloom: it's far from no more - some big-budget 3D movies still use cel animated pencil-tests to key their motion from. People don't animate in 3D with the same rhythm and flow as the best cel animation had, but that's less to do with the technology and more to do with the style in use.
Also for every sumptuous Bluth/Disney/Warners feast for the eyes back in the days of cel, there were heaps of technical atrocities from the likes of Hanna-Barbera, Filmation, etc anyway. Don't forget those. :)

k-bird: I see that the Internet doesn't translate my sarcasm clearly enough :)
