When 6 are enough

category: general [glöplog]

Dear Zikers: how many tracks do you include in your Zik done with ModPlug in .xm format for an 64ko intro? I wonder whether 6 tracks are enough to reach quality stereo given the Zik must not exceed 30ko.

the number of tracks feel rather irrelevant.. the thing you gotta keep most focus on is too have as small and good samples as possible..

For keeping the pattern data size small, use slow speeds as those empty rows weigh too.

bzz and raina: Thanks a lot!
This is the 4 channels module I'd like to change to at least 6 channels:

See you perhaps at the main#2 in Marseilles.

uh, since when did pattern-data take up notable space in an intro after compression?

one for drums.
two tracks gets you drums, funky bass, a chord comp and melodic hits

kusma: not so much the pattern data itself but the headers and redundancy. you can easily save space by breaking patterns up to subpatterns for variations, etc. plus with the PG soundtrack, i won like 3-4k just by transposing the patterns in a per-row fashion.

Yeap, eliminating redundancy can be tedious but it gets results.

use generated samples and 12 channels. 6 channels is for 4k's :)

Hi bzz: a supplementary track adds 2ko about, which is not negligible. I am searching samples for chip tune-like songs. Are you aware of url's I could download them from?
Thanks a lot.
I'll be at the main#2 in MArseilles by the way.

You don't download them, you generate them with code.

Or well, it's not like chip-tune samples take a lot of data anyway :P
Graga: is there any freeware to do that? Is one limited to 8-bit samples? :-)

Real men sing and beatbox the music to their 64k live at the compo!
