Flash Module player

category: general [glöplog]

I've been looking for a Flash-format module (mod/xm/it/s3m) player I could use to embed a module player into a website (and point at a bunch of tunes), but I haven't had any luck.

I know the current Flash formats have built-in MP3 and various other codecs, but obviously no module playback.
Does anyone know of such a thing?
Or am I completely off-base here, and flash isn't as reprogrammable as I thought? (or, the thing would be far too slow)

Why not use Java? Seems to wok OK for plopbox.

Um, no, no it doens't. One of the things the plopbox folks have asked for help with was correcting various bugs in the replayer.

Also, I would never wish anyone the curse of Java. Part of why I have very little time for anything these days are 2 java applications which were, unfortunately, created instead of real applications which would be supported by people who don't give answers to "why does this application consume up to 4 gigs of memory before crashing" with "Java does not have memory leaks, therefore, it is not crashing."

crusader: quite frankly, I'd backend it with uade. But that's because I always backend things with uade. Because uade rules. (I just need a better it/xm player.)
the 8bitboy can help you i think

Plopbox looks cool.

8bitboy is a bit more like what I want- I was thinking of something like XM-EXE, only in something cross-platform like Flash that could be embedded like the modplugin.

For command-line non-MOD module playing I've been using TiMIDIty++. I have no idea what backend it's using, nor does the website even say it can play modules, but it seems to be able to handle XM,IT,S3M,STM,MTM,669, and FAR fairly well. Not that I necessarily know what they're supposed to sound like, but they don't sound flat-out wrong. Oh, and it eats CPU like pudding, and has reverb.

http://code.google.com/p/hxmikmod/

hxMikMod player library for Flash 10, comes with source, plays MOD, XM, S3M, IT so far. Doesn't include a neat frontend at the moment.

I really want a light customisable player for www.chiptune.com too :(

I've tried to make it light cpu-wise. Some crude comparison: hxmikmod takes about 5-9% of one cpu playing a typical 4-channel mod on my computer, according to the linux "top" command. 8bitboy takes about 12-16%, flashModPlug 17-22%. This isn't entirely fair because the others have slightly more moving graphics and stuff. Playing a 30-channel XM: hxmikmod 7% cpu, flashModPlug: 20-23% (these are AFAIK the only two flash players that do >4 channel XM, S3M and IT mods).

There's a binary download now on at http://code.google.com/p/hxmikmod/downloads/list, you can customize the playlist and skin graphics, and basicly anything else too if you can program in haXe ;)
