Discussion: Usage of D3DX in 4k intros

category: general [glöplog]
Which by the way, leads me to throw my opinion here, that loading time should somehow be capped ;)

by saying "capped" you mean cut?
for some things you just need a bit precalc, and cutting down the precalc time didn't even happen for 64k's yet (afaik). But yeah, a precalc that is longer than 2 min, is way too long ;)

nooo, dont limit the precalc time!! =)

smash: just include a loading bar *cough* ;)

can we upload some extra data from internet in a 4k ?
anyway, directx sucks
added on the 2005-09-28 16:03:40 by skarab skarab
sure. you can write a 4k download manager and run a 40mb demo from the net

yes, but without using d3dx_24.dll else it'ld be cheating

unless of course the given party (or the compo machine) doesnt have internet, in which case you're screwed :)

after deep studies done by the federal bureau of entertaing, undebatable facts state that it's rather clear that this thread lacks in the BASS! department.

is msvcp71.dll part of one win service pack ?
i've seen some 4k using it but i wonder.
please.
added on the 2005-09-29 10:06:14 by skarab skarab
as far as i can remember, msvcp71 is required by msvcr71, which is linked when you're using the cstdlib probably for all those nice sin\cos\tan. since it's better (faster and smaller) to use the intrinsic version of those funcion, it's rather clear that's a coder fault. and no, those dlls aren't part of any clean windows nor of any service pack (but i'm available to be pulled up)

ok i know for sin but for passing the fltused thingies, just need to declare the var or... ?
added on the 2005-09-29 10:23:11 by skarab skarab
extern "C" int _fltused ;
int _fltused ;

and everything will be fine as smooth silk. and remember to say to the linker your own entrypoint function, so it'll not use the main() initalizer anymore

besides, you can happily link with msvcrt (version 6 crt), which is included in windows.
added on the 2005-09-29 11:04:55 by smash smash
just copy the msvcrt.lib from the vc6-lib directory (or get it from here), and link to that one instead.
added on the 2005-09-29 11:57:15 by kusma kusma
msvcrt.lib is still present in vc7 (and even vc8)

what about coding a little bit instead of calling super-mega-smooth-optimalize-3d-microsoft-miracle-dlls? ehh.

blala: well, i know i'd be lost without the "create4k" function in d3dx.
