the big demoscene trivia thread

category: general [glöplog]
In this thread i'd like to collect interesting and/or funny (but real) facts about or out of the demoscene and maybe later pile them together to a dedicated website.

Your contributions are welcome, but please don't mess it up with lies and rumours or otherwise mark your entry with (rumour). Your entry should always start with something like "Did you know, that...".

Ok, one for the beginning that brought me to this idea (contributed by tobi):

"Did you know, that Pincess Diana died on the weekend Evoke 97 was held?"

So much about facts... it seems that pouet.net threads are not worth a fart. well, it's something many ppl already told me, but i didn't want to believe it.
Time to face the truth...

Did you know that some ppl just don't have any interesting/funny facts about the demoscene, so the only thing they can write is bullshit? ;-)

Maybe the demoscene just isn't interesting/funny enough to have any trivia :)

Did you know that Lucky&Tigrou party is named after Lluvia's cats? (Can't verify it right now but that's the first thing that came in my mind, I remember that I was telling this one years ago to my brother and he thought I was so obsessed with the scene that I know every useless rumour :P)

And as I talk about demoparty names, I'd explain how did the name "The Gardening" came into. One rumour is that when emc of deus had watched Dope among with the other members of deus, he said "Maybe we should stop democoding and start planting some tomatoes" or something like that. Well,. there is another story of a challenge of who can do the smallest mandelbrot, JNK made a 197byte one with an nfo message saying "
IF ANY ONE OF YOU OUT THERE *EVER* GETS IT FASTER OR SMALLER ... I WILL
GIVE UP PROGRAMMING AND BE A GARDENER.", and emc answered with 182 one and a funny GIF with agricultural machines, also it's nice to notice that here is a file_id.diz stating "Released at Gardening 94" while there was never a Gardening 94 :). And of course, it rhymed along with "The Gathering" and all these factors resulted in the party name, though I still can't get how gardening is mixed with agriculture :) Blah blah.. (I've got those fractal intros and funny texts in a folder, I guess I don't have permission to release the gardening story so I leave it here ;P)

I guess it was keops who told me the party was named after the cats of Yes and chandra. Back in the days Christophe was the boyfriend of Lluvia.
Did you know Optimus is ignored by ppl with a short attention span?
