creative tracks in demos?
category: general [glöplog]
now that i think of it, this guy randall from suburban used to make some nice hardcore tracks back on the amiga. ok...he stole with arm and legs, but that was pretty much the basic idea of hardcore anyway. i always like their demos because of his tracks. :) (still have them, and step into darkness is a classic in my book :)
DO MORE CREATIVE MUSIC-TRACKS FOR DEMOS AND MUSIC-COMPETITIONS LIKE iN THE GOOD OLD DAYS AGAIN.... ;-)
You must be kidding. All those stupid 303-overkill and uninspired techno tracks in insane 8-bit quality. No thank you. ;)
if you have the idea get the gear and get started. Problem is, a lot of musicians have the gear but no idea.
Pretty much the same with a lot of coders. They can code, but don't know WHAT (or how to make it look good for that matter).
No matter if musician, graphic artist or coder. A fool with a tool is still a fool. Without intuition and imagination, the results will look/sound bad.
And in the end, everybody makes the stuff that he/she likes and/or is able to do. And not what you demand them to do. Or the other way around. Make your own demo with your own music in it. :)

"Make your own demo with your own music in it"
it cant be said any better than that :)

Back in the A500 days there was this sine bob demo with some nice piano music. I can't 100% remember the titles, but the demo may have been called 'boll.' The user could change the bob movement parameters.
Was the track called 'piano plinker 2'??? I can't remember...

shit! was just reading this and saw something...
thnx wade!
thnx wade!
dune / orange composed some of the best weird ambient tunes before. i have not heard any of this style in any of the new demos. only the soundtrack in mush ca by tb2 is likely to have weird sounds like dune. i think.
i want more jazzy triphop in demos.
front243 | wade: Pretty good taste, I like these ones too and in general this style of music (and some more). In my scene music playlist there are quite much demo soundtracks. Old stuff like the Dope or the Contrast soundtrack, but also newer stuff like the music from the latest HJB demos.
This one is also nice :)

and let's not even mention the fact that most demos are shit too!
word.
well.. seems like most of the people in here like dnb..
That's perhaps the point: I don't like it that much..
I hope that a new style rises.. like: In the beginning, there was Purple Motion and Jogeir Liljedahl and stuff.. and then this "demomusic" was passé and dune came and introduced some new stuff. Well, now, this second stage still stays.. I'm ready for the third stage...

SID music and chip music is probably the only scene music that hasnt got any real commercial twin. The clue being that these styles havent got a very professional edge to them (volume clicks, not enough channels, crap sounds etc). I say if you want to do something new you'd have to put heavy restrictions on what youre making music with. This way forcing the songs you make into having a style that suits your limited instruments. I think in the end, its the instruments that dictate what style the tune ends up with.. Just try doing orchestral style with a 303 or the other way around, do goa with orchestral instruments..
i agree with reed: purple motion is shit
Buzz --> can do anything. I've done techno with it, fake-chip with it, d-n-b, glitch, Rage-Against-The-Machine-type angry bee in a jar music, Delerium-esque female vocal stuff... you name it.
i dig most of farb-rausch's music... especially the track [vocal track in particular] in fr-20 'in control'. Also the song in moppi's demo 'ffwd'.
they can be seen here [fr-20]:
http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=5596
and here [moppi-ffwd]:
http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=729
both have great design, imo.
and while i can't claim to be a scener to the point of being in a group, i can claim to be a musician that holds originality and experimentation in high regard. you'll all be informed when i get enough shit together to put it up ;p

Mempheria: It's just my personal opinion, but the music in those demos seemed to stand out more than any others I've seen in recent years.
Although there are a lot of other great tracks out there too, like Westside Twiddly, Ettv and Fears. I also liked Epilog for being different.

make me some heavy grunge music, I'm fed up of the triangle signals sent through lowpass filters, the scene needs disto or commercial mp3.
dake. that true. btw you all can find cheap grunge/death/thrash guitar pedals witch will give you the perfect heavy power or the thin post industrial sound.
I'd still like to hear a decent death/black metal track in a demo
...and yes, purple motion sucks ass

so, if I summarize this thread, demo soundtracks are not creative,
because they take the same inspiration, and the solution
to that is to inspire oneself of commercialized tracks.
right.

Let me add this <A HREF="http://lysis.audio-stream.net/trentetrois/music.html" TARGET="_blank">shameless link</A> to overshadow skrebbel's ridiculeness.
