PPC excluded from BP

Amiga Sceners cant just demand, without giving something back.
I hope I could say I wanted to help orginizing a party, but then I would be lying ;)
Work scares me ;) All respect and praise to thoose who do

I will continue to write what I want even if you think it's not productive because it's not your opinion.
You do that. We'll keep making cuckoo noises whenever we read it, okay? :)
Exin: wow, I didn't know the Falcon was a weird 3rd party add-in card to the ST, but I guess that's just like comparing bad analogies to err...good ones? *head hurts*. I think it's more like Amiga 500 vs. Amiga 3000 or whatever stupid clockspeed Amiga sceners obsess about.
I think it's perfect that there's no PPC in the compo - but then again, I'm an oldskooler :-).
- yeah oldschool amiga coders doesn't care a bit about these nonsense newschool amiga PPC demo. And the better would be all amiga newschool PPC coder die. Just because if not, oldschool ones would be obsolete.
Don't mess up: So-said oldschooler doesn't use blitter or copper stuffs in their demos; It would be pointless. They use a 68060 accelerator card, a CPU which brings enough power to just get rid of the other amiga chipsets capabilities, and open a chunkyToPlanar screen, and make it only available for old AGA machines. With a little more work on the startup it would work on amigaNG, but they don't do that, just because they are psychorigids. And of course, as their demo are made to be watched on DivX by PC users, they don't care.
Amiga newschool PPC coders manage to use the amiga system, yeah you heard about amigaOS ? If amiga is still here today, It is absolutely because of its hardware, but because of its system.
Amiga newschool PPC coders make their prods compatible for most amigas, and sometimes both for AGA and graphic cards. I also mean that PPC users REALLY watch their amiga demos by executing the demo on their machine, not by using a divX player or UAE, like the oldschool amiga coders are used to.
So each time I read something from a so-said amiga oldschooler, I watch his stuff and discover his work has nothing to deal with oldschool amigas, but use 1997/1998 accelerators. But you know, you just have to "look like" an oldschool coder. Who cares of the details ?
About scamp choice and the BP amiga compo rules: it is a hard job. Yeah, no one will be happy whatever happens.
No PPC, why not ? And what about: next year: ,no 68000 ?

if the orgas got just one serious mail from someone wanting to make a ppc demo for bp, it might be worth having this discussion. otherwise, lets drop it =)
shifter: I think to compare Atari Falcon with ST, its like comparing Mega Drive with 32X. Both get pushed together in one competition nowadays to one "atari" competition. Thats what i wanted to say. And anyways, there's a DSP upgrade for the Atari TT, so some Falcon stuff might work on it. ;-)

We can only dream
Shifter:Okay, I want to hear it directly from you at the partyplace! Cheers!!
well, as long as it doesn't affect the 68020,030,040 and 060 ;) I wouldn't break down in tears
dodge, you just won the supercup ;)
Krabob: The future of the Amiga compos is entirely in the hands of the Amiga scene. Securing Amiga competitions is pretty simple: Do prods for it and release them at Breakpoint.
I'd say from the previous Breakpoints that the Amiga scene at BP is pretty alive and kicking, and won't go away anytime soon.
And if the Amiga scene wishes to see additional Amiga-specific features at Breakpoint, we need Amiga sceners to join the organizing team. If the C64 scene is able to do that, the Amiga scene too should be.

Was a long time since I had such a nice laugh... No, of course we evil "68k only" coders don't know how to use blitter/copper. Or maybe we do? Decide for yourself:
Evil!
Pointless!
Lame!
68060 required!
C2P galore!
...
Excluding PPC/Pegasos/etc. entries from the Amiga compos is the only right thing to do. It's simply not fair otherwise. Like, disallowing use of the SuperCPU in the C64 compo doesn't strike anyone as zealous. And don't tell me that's not the exact same thing.
Seems the whole discussion suffers from the misunderstanding that Amiga sceners can't make up their minds. We of the 68k camp made up our minds long ago: we don't want a mixed compo. Hence the whole problem.
I guess it's really wrong to still refer to us all as "the Amiga scene" when clearly we're so divided as to what we think constitutes an Amiga. The real question should be "do the PPC contributions merit a compo, or don't they".
Using the Amiga compo as a place to dump demos that don't fit anywhere else (Pegasos, OS4, AmigaPPC etc.) is really unfair to some of the oldest and most dedicated sceners left. I recall someone suggesting Mac demos could be put in the Amiga compo as well. MAC DEMOS!
So anyway, this has all been said before. Long story short, whatever happens, BREAKPOINT R0XX0RZ! If they cancelled all the compos, arranged the whole party outside, on the ground, in the rain, and during christmas, I think I'd still come.

hehehe, shane has an excellent sense to start flamethreads. he's one true troll. :D

I agree with StingRay and Dr. Doom!

In other totally unrelated news, not only am I in IRIS, I went to Ikea and bought some teatowels called "IRIS".

@Krabob
I own an A500, A600, A1200+060, A4000+060+PPC, and AmigaOne.
For scene coding, I use the A1200+060, as well as the A500. I *don't* use UAE unless I really have to, just as a matter of preference. I also do know how to use the copper and the blitter, thanks, and StingRay pointed out with his second link (incidentally that production drives the blitter with the copper.. ;-).

"it's time to vote for our new world leader, I nominate....... Dooom!!!!"
I'm gonna sing the Doom song now.
There was on a Doom on 32X, sadly it was coded very poorely. People became angry about the 32X when they should've become angry about these lame coders.

It think that the perpetual engine that is Amiga zealots whining in threads like this is telling you just that. They're wrong, ofcourse, but hey -at least they put the fun in fundamentalism (for me at least).
It's just funny how this starts every time a "major" demoparty comes around. Honestly, every time Breakpoint, Assembly or whatever these kids are smoking comes around, another can of crybabies gets opened. I'd love to see them pull that shit on a small party with less "prestige".

In that case they dont make a fuss because they can cry their point through since organizers have less to care about.

seconded!
ans speaking of small parties, I remember the epic Amiga compo at tUM04!
Quote:
That's the spirit. Even I as a Mega Drive user have some fun watching recordings (in DivX of course) of Mega Drive games and commercials. Those were the days...And of course, as their demo are made to be watched on DivX by PC users, they don't care.
(C'mon Exin, it's pretty hard to pouetize this thread alone!)
Okkie: Thank you for your example. The tUM main organizers gave something to the amiga scene but the amiga scene gave nothing back. It was the hard work of some nice people from Germany Junior which saved that compo.
