two mistakes regarding the forum:
a) with no moderation of who gets to be a member and who doesn't, it'll end up as much of a shitpile of lamers as pouet.
b) by allowing guests to post without registering it'll end up even more of a shitpile of lamers than pouet.

c) it will take over your bran from pouet!

just dont advertise it to non-artists

Answer to mistake a: it's not easy to control this. Besides, it should be open for everyone. After all; it's about sharing knowledge and experience.

answer to mistake b: The guest function has been disabled ( it was only open for some hours )

offcourse we could have only one "open" forum, and "invite only" for the rest of the forums. In that case everyone can prove themselves before beeing able to post/read in the "real" forums. Ideas anyone ?

Just allow anyone to come and then ban the trolls if/when they appear or get annoting.

And when I say annoting I of course mean annoying.

wanadoo smartgroups have a system whereby just the first number of posts are moderated
i think this a solution yes?

Response: someone (I have no idea who) made a suggestion about it on the forum itself (:

Kinda the combination thing --- let folks come in, and if they prove themselves annoying, they're relegated to a 'sandbox' where they can prove themselves 'good little campers' to a set of really patient sceners.

There are problems with that method as well, but the risk is more than likely worth it - using this method some new sceners that otherwise would have become relegated to the realms of the depths of hell known as slashdot, wankopedia, and fark...

I can be an optimist if I _wanna_.
i dont think there will be too many problems because the forum seems to have alot of sections/groups
but i would move the demo threads to the bottom of the list as it is the most elite/specialised

however exe music/entertainment and stuff should be ok at the top of the list of sections
added on the 2006-03-13 21:52:14 by elastic elastic
then under that a resources set of sections
for people to learn
then below the gui sections
then the demotools then demo coders etc sections

i got this suggestion froma trubleshooter(he has20 years publishing/media experience knowsabout publishing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!art and media etc
has also worked with cognitive psychology student _re user friendly design architecture!!!
must be just instinct? hope the suggestion helps
he charges £500 per hour normally!!

uncle-x: elastic is trying my patience.
Mine is not a very "elastic" patience, it could break soon

The fact that we're discussing possible improvements for that forum here on pouet instead of on the forum itself says enough ;-)

the fact that it's the only actual conversation on pouet at the moment does seem to indicate that it's a month before BP, yes.

And some of us are doing both.
The theme/skin is -extremely- ugly... and doesn't really change when y0ou change it in your profile.

I mean... for god's sake... why the fuck does it have a slashed background?

Why does it have a welcome page? After seeing it once you're bound to bookmark/link/whatever the actual content and the URL will be uglier and harder to remember and you'll just use the root and end up cursing the welcome page.

Jcl has an interesting opinion. I would even go as far as to say he's right.

hehe ...

1. The welcome page issue: there will be more of a welcome page in time. I might redirect it until then.

2. The theme issue: I like it. Maybee I'll change it sometime, but not at the moment. Does it really matter ? Again; it's only a forum, and you take it to seriously :)

response: well, it does somewhat as it's yet another theme for phpbb or whatever that has the 'truck can't find the right freaking button to hit for a 'reply' ' problem.

Some of the best Nectarine skins were created by users... just, ya know, why not?
