What's up with the scene?

To be honest, wade's article was so so pointless - if you leave the scene its your own choice and to have a last say article saying everyone sucks is just sad. I mean, he must be bitter or something that he cant balance real life and scene life or something, hes moved on but no need to moan to others about his past in finding what he really wanted to do in life. its really a sad, pointless article.
my view of anything in life is simple - if your going to do anything, you do it to your fullest ability, you are a lamer if you dont.

I think we're in danger of losing Darkus to Scientology.
dvs: i absolutely agree with your last statement =)

Well it depends. Even if one trolls as much as it is humanly possible, it does not make him any less a lamer :)
dvs: I agree about Wade's article but your view sucks :)
Jean Nine:
yup valid point.. but a scene board is not the place to do it.. we spend too much time in our lives going through useless information which we would rather not look at, why add to the shitpile?

I agree with Devistator about Wade's article too. I get disheartend by the scene sometimes and think about ditching it but Wade took it too seriously and it never sounded like he had any fun doing it. When you think that way then hell yeah, it's no wonder you get bitter. A lot of guys think that way.
Me, I agree with Darkus it doesn't matter how you perceive me. I just want to have fun even if it means being a lamer and pissing people off. It's just a hobby! It's there when I turn on my computer and I'm bored, and that's where it ends.
Sometimes I feel like being serious or funny or sometimes I like to just be a pain in the ass and make fun of the nerds who take it too serious (like Wade). That's what creative expression is and for me the scene is all about expressing myself. It's not about working with a list of acceptable programs, working in limits (unless it's practical to do so) or following rules.
My gripe with the scene right now is that hardly anyone is expressing themselves and there's no entertainment value in most demos.

I think Shane is funny and my opinion matters because I have been to MS. Just so you know!
I think I was never really pissed and I started to like Shane, because he has a great, elegant, creative and gentle way of trolling, with humour and a point. Ok you know we are like real brothers and perhaps I say too positive things for him, but I really felt like that about Shane since time have passed. I am not namevoting now. I want to meet you Shane in some demoparty and I will protect you from those who might want to beat you up!!! (Even if I don't think you have done something really bad to make people really hate you (Except from that virus perhaps? :))
Shane doesn't need protection, he has a grandad.
The scene's in constant change. Just like any other form of art or expression. There's people sticking to "the old ways" of doing stuff, and others, who create new ways. Some of the older people will adapt.. some won't. Some will leave quietly.. others will leave ranting.
I don't know if it makes sense to put labels on it like "good" and "bad". It's the same with older people always talking about how good it was "back then, when I was young..". It's all about your own point of view, your own perception of what the scene is, and the very individual reason that drives each and every member of the scene to do what they do.
Let's not forget one point which makes the scene a great place to be: the way everyone, truly everyone skilled enough, can change it. There's always been demos which were milestones, which set new standards and led the whole scene into a new direction. If you're not satisfied with today's demos... go and create something that redefines the term "scenedemo" once again.

I can't agree more :)
nice point.
i like shane, despite that he's become a grumpy old wolf. and i've been to a couple of parties, unlike for example crossbow/crest
frighteningly, i agree with shane.
I second smash, even if it means agreeing with Shane.
The problem with jokeprods is that people who made them are usually the only ones who laugh at them. That's understandable, since many groups are usually more than just bunch of people who make shit productions. People who know each other very well in real life, share same kind of sense of humor and spends lots of time each other have lots of inside jokes and party jokes that other demosceners don't find funny at all.
Conclusion: I LOVE YOU ALL!
Answer for your first question: yes/no/maybe

I do on most parts, the last bit I disagree with. Especially a month before Breakpoint. This is NOT the time to be complaining that nothing good is being released. This is instead the time to try to improve that demo for BP so it's not a repeat of the 2004 PC demo compo, with 5 entries that were worth watching.
2005 had some KILLER shit in ALL categories.
This is the time to be besting 2005 (:
Right what am I doing posting on pouet I should be freaking coding.

Face it, Truck - You are never gonna finish anything :)
I don't have a problem with joke prods. I've made quite a few in my time.
My problem with shane in the old days was not that he made crap joke demos, it was that he made crap joke demos AND went on and on and on about how by making those joke demos he was saving the Amiga scene.
These days the thing that annoys me is that Shane complains about the quality of scene releases is bad, but all he's ever made is crap.
If you want decent demos, make decent demos. Otherwise, stop bitching.

Thanks to the guys here who find the humour in what I do. Optimus, maybe one day we will meet and we can fight gypsies together!! Don't worry, my gran will teach you her deadly martial arts techniques before we go into the battlefield!

Well I have to admit, I agree with you here too. The whole Fearmoths thing started as a personal joke among friends.
sauli: No, that motivational technique doesn't work properly on me either (:
Shane: Finally we understand each other. Too bad YOU ARE MY SWORN ENEMY!
demos are artistic expressions.. if ppl enjoy to express 'stupid annoying jokeprods', it's their choice and their right to do so. there's no point in discussing taste and tastelessness over subjective terms such as these.. if you feel this genre is overtaking the scene, it's time to differ instead of being a pussy and bail out ;)
Truck, what are you coding?
I should be coding too now..
