I'm twh from the atari 8bit scene group Foundation Two (F2) and very impressed of this online demoscene resource page!! I really love this site, but it miss a very important platform to me!!

There should be an "Atari XL/XE" entry on your list!! I could submit at least 15 trackmos and numerous single-file demo. The latest one is even from summer 2002!!! So I think, just for the fact that there is a dreamcast-section with only 7 items listet, at least some prods of atari8 should be inserted to your funtastic database!!

Just install it on this page and I will submit you the very best prods on XL/XE in the next days!!

Yes! That's a good idea! I had seen few nice XL demos, but I would like to see more of them in the database of Pouet!

yeah great to read this!! it would be wonderfull, when we could discuss more about 8bit atari and the scene, which is still really active in poland and germany. of course, not that much like c64 scene is doing, but fine and with great people around!!

Oh my god!!! I have just seen the screenshots from numen, yeah preety impressive! So many 3d scenes in an atari 8bit? Demo looks really big with many effects. I will definitelly download it and watch in an 8bitAtari emulator I have in home..

Analogue is not that much active today? Hmm.. perhaps we should think again the idea of choosing 2-3 more sceners to take care of Pouet???

I have just seen the screenshots from numen, yeah preety impressive!

In fact, I have seen thumbnails of screen shots. Small thumbnails of 8-bit demo ALWAYS look much better than the real thing in motion. (demos running in low-res or at < 5fps are not THAT impressive to me :)

Yes. I have just seen it and some of the impressive looking 3d parts run very slow. Most effects are also in 4*4 pixel blocks (Or I don't know how much, considering the resolution of 8bit Atari, so don't take that 4*4 in regard..). But still it was a great watch, really big demowork! I would definitelly want to have that in Pouet when the new section will be added, to thumb it up! What are the hardware capabilities of Atari 800Xl btw? What kind of CPU does it have??? (Some of the flat polygons seemed faster than in C64 demos, and the rubic's cube was fast enough and impressive, I haven't seen such a thing in C64 demos)

there are lots of 3D demos on 8bit atari..
the scene seems to be almost dead at the moment tho unlike just a couple of years ago :(

The Atari 8bit is a 6502 CPU, pulling about 1.7MHz if memory serves but it does have the advantage that SuperGTIA mode (i think i've remembered the name right) doesn't take the same processor overhead that half FLI does on the C64 for the 4x4 pixel stuff. Numen is pretty brutal stuff though, well worth a watch.

That's preety good machine demos. Faster than C64, easier 4x4 pixel output, great pallete, yumm!!! But I guess this will force coders to code always 4*4 and not that much highres stuff, though they are not bad, but sometimes they look too blocky..

Just watched Numen and admittedly, it's pretty spiffy (okay, it's a bit long and I was kinda sick of the '3d' world after a while -but there were plenty of other goodies to keep me busy).

Thanks for bringing this platform to our attention a bit more twh, looking forward to seeing this platform on pouet.net.

Yeah I saw that numen demo in an emulator a while ago (there was a post in CSIPD about it). Very impressive. Seems like it used LOTS of memory though, I think you needed to set the emu at 320k mem or something like that, which gives it quite an edge over the C64.
I would like to know more of the graphics modes though, there was some twirl-like effect in that demo that ran in a real nice mode, high-res, lots of colors.

The fact that it has nearly twice the clockspeed of a C64 should also matter a bit, wouldn't you agree, sdw? ;)

Let's not compare it to a C64 just because of the 6502 chip it has. I like the thing in it's own right.

Agreeing with shifter, the Atari can torch the C64 for a few of things, the C64 can torch the Atari back as well so there'll never be a definitive "best" machine. They're both better than the CPC, though [smiles sweetly at optimus =-]

I totally agree to shifter! Comparing c64 with xl/xe is nothing more than a flame war without any sense at these days. it's because the c64, as well as the xl/xe is a quite amazing machine - just take this fact.

we can do wonderfull things with our favourite oldskool platform - just because of FUN... and this is what's all about -> having fun ..
