As for the worst babelfish style Engrish you saw with some demo, is?

category: general [glöplog]
As for me there must be a classic of the substance which is there, thing is verified!

Even if I was in Ano .Domini 2101 ,
I still feel in a total lack of love.
Even If I add a "s" at the end of verbs at the third person.
I thing I should drink one more.
My english teacher, younger, try it to prevent.
But I'll drink alcohol more and more.
Even At the wheel, but I didn't pretend,
But last weekend I to colioure I drove.

Come on, every 2nd C64 demo coming from Poland or Hungary in the period of ~ '90-'95 had terrible english grammar.

I hope you realise (or understand) that it's mainly due to the communist opression on the eastern block till the end of the '80s (for the teenage generation which grew up that time, it was actually quite hard to learn the English language properly, unless from games or diskmags). So I kind of find it a bit tasteless to make fun out of someone's misery, as not even one scener is really responsible for their bad grammar - actually, seems to me they were trying their best.

The Japs are a different story though, they're simply noobs.

Jailbird: 1. if only every second demo had broken english, then it means the other half of them had correct grammar so how come _they_ could? 2. the point is that the problem still persists today :)

Gargaj:
1. most probably, some people had more talent or whole lot of opportunities to learn english - however, as far as I recall, 95% of my snailmail contacts from Poland had serious trouble with English. Besides, not every demo had english "lyrics" in it (or any text at all).

2. It may be breaking news to you guys, but not everyone is capable to learn a language fully and to use it correctly. Nevertheless, neither do I see why it should be treated as a problem. I myself, appreciate even the slightiest try from someone to express himself on a foreign language.

Well anyhow, I'll never realise the amazing hilariousity of bad english. Not my kind of humour, allright.

I love reading engrish and I don't find it offensive to post examples of them here (Though it might not be the same for others). And I never start bugging other people with their english as long as I understand the meaning. Anyways, nice thread but why isn't populated enough? :)

was it deliberately this thread's the subject been written on purpose with engrish style?

Guten morgen, as they say in Germany.

I love engrish too, it's not always funny but it very often is. Take that polish demo from above... the guy doesn't suffer from just laziness but lazinesses... a whole load of different kinds of laziness!

I don't see why laughing at engrish has to be offensive to anyone too... if they say something funny, you laugh, tell them why you're laughing so they 1. understand the joke and can laugh too and 2. learn from the mistake. I'm quite happy for people to laugh when i communicate in foreign languages.

Heh, this reminds me of 'the chronicles of George'

One of the printers is acting weird. George is typing weird. Note the use of the word "havening". This is a word that George uses often--hey, at least he's consistent. I believe "firing" refers to the Fiery printer controllers we have at work, but who the hell knows?

When you deal with this on a day to day basis, things like the Polish item above... they're just FINE.
Cruzer: it was written in (hopefully) good english, then translated into japanese then back to enlish with babelfish. I call it the Engrish Obfuscation Engine.

Kind-of related, and funny: a dyslexic guy here asked if anybody wanted a sandwich for lunch.. another guy said "Yeah, egg with bacon please". And what did he get? "Egg white baton" :D
