Math music

I was searching for something while studying math, and I found this:
http://tones.wolfram.com/
Play with it. It's quite cool.

Holy cow this thing is cool! Thanks for posting the link! Did you read the bit about how it work, specifically the Wolfram Automata? That's pretty interesting stuff, and it seems to me like it could make waves in a wide variety of fields...
It's not that new.
It'd be nice to have 4K-intro-like stuff actually generate ("uncrunch") nice-sounding and rememberable melodies and rhythms from as little seed data as possible. I'm still searching for a decent algorithm: typical music generation algorithms just tend to have too much randomity and too little customability, so the output nearly always sounds like crap.
Those pixels that define the music remind me of Sim Tunes by Toshio Iwai (Japanese multimedia artist now known for Electroplankton)

Woops, here I go on posting without thinking that i wasn't at home. It was me who posted the previous message.
Iwai-san rulez. The man made elektoplankton alone.
Actually electroplankton also uses some algorthms like in the first page I liinked.

This seems to be a common misconception, while it is true that he did most of the work himself (including a lot of the programming), he did have a team of people to help him out.
You will find the names of these people in the manual, last page.
wow, that's totally sweet. the images it displays reminds me of an experiment i did a few years ago. i converted midi's to image files and made a program that would play the images back as audio kinda like those old pianos that play punched paper. i thought it would be cool to try and author music in image form. well everything i tried to author that way sounded craptacular, but i had fun trying. :)
nice, quite old.
and I still wonder about the duality Anaki_Muon/noouch ;P

a_lee_n: I know... I love the manual, it's so cute :D
He did something like do this with this and that. Add those... But if you count the ones that really work in the game (exclude the "SPECIAL THANKS", "PRODUCER", and "EXECUTIVE PRODUCER"), there are only 12 guys, and ... damn it's the cutest game manual I've seen :(

Yeah, he spent as much time on the manual as he did on the game itself. It's a beautiful piece of art with everything hand drawn. I especially like the kid drawings on the last pages. :)
a theremin touchpad with waving leds. and he gets paid too, probably =)
This is nice!
kelsey, excuse me?
nah, aphex twin - math music ... nevermind. :)
If someone wants to try out Sim Tunes (which was mentioned earlier on in this thread by a_lee_n), I found a playable demo version of it on the net.
