Breakpoint 2006

@ Madenmann: Magic in fact doesn't own an Amiga anymore at all. He sold his one many years ago!
@ Scamp: Now I understand your reasons a lot better.

So there is a very basic rule of thumb in Breakpoint organizing: If we want to add another competition, then an existing competition has to be dropped. As all competitions we currently run are very successful, this isn't a task that can easily happen. To add a new competition, we need to be sure it will be more popular/relevant then the one we are dropping for it.
which compo is the photo competition replacing then? =)
photo is an exception because it neither requires video recording time nor a full timeslot (just 30mins :)
Dalezy: The graphic compo re-runs we used to have got dropped in 2005, so the gfx compo team had some "credits" left ;)
Also, because they are non-audio, in worst-case gfx compos can be held with seminars overlapping in case of delays etc.

Well, yeah, plus what ryg said ;)
Don't cancel the photo-compo please! :( it's the only chance for me to provide an entry and get at least my name on the screen even if it's the last place. :p
The photo compo is a great idea.
Erm, nobody dropped a word about cancelling the photo compo - yeah, it's a great idea and it sure will take place :)
I got a proposal for the graphics compos. I believe they are a bit too rushed on parties and don't do enough justice to the graphicians.
When I attended Breakpoint 2004 I enjoyed it very much that the 4 steps that one has to deliver were displayed and the host also zoomed in and out on the final picture and pointed out the interesting details. I think that this made the attendence to the graphic compos much more delightful. Do it again! :-)

i agree with selectanovel that it's a good idea to zoom and show details in pics.
photo compo is an excellent idea.
photo compo is an excellent idea.
and oh yeah, is it allowed to manipulate the photo in the darkroom, so that i could do some kind of collage without any digital equipment?
[just asked the gfx compo head, fashion/fr]
selectanovel: Well, regarding "do it again" - the zooming stuff was introduced at Breakpoint 2003, and was also done at BP 2004 and 2005. Guess what'll be done at BP2006? Of course we'll keep this, so this isn't exactly a 'proposal' of yours ;)

nosfe:
fashion says: "Depends on your definition of 'collage'. The resulting image may only contain one photo source. If you want to use common darkroom tricks to filter or texturize the photo you've taken, then that's of course ok"

with collage i meant using two for more different photos and then combining them in the dark room by exposing the photo paper with them.. but if working analogically in the dark room is not allowed, then i won't do it.
oh well, i can get pretty good results with exposing one single frame several times on a camera too, that should be allowed atleast? :)

nosfe: yeah, the latter one would be allowed.
and on polish portals flames are gathering ...
i'm glad to see my annoying oh-god-no-more-overflowing-images-on-pouet-thread patch doing the job... hehe
why all this negativity ? if you really disagree so much with everything I really think you should stay at home ! fuck; it's a party with rules set by the organizers. accept it, or don't bother to show up ! simple solutions for simple minds :)
ahahaha bonzaj you rule!
dipswitch: he he not me, but Fei :)
response: erm no. Actually we were much welcome these kinds of questions, suggestions and criticism. We highly prefer having the ability to EXPLAIN people why we have taken this and that route so they understand our reasons and visions. That's far better than waking up in a few years as an organizer with an "ooops, we've just degraded to another 'the party'"-feeling ;)
scamp: but the party rulez! try being more like them!
Regarding The whole PPC thing. I think the issue here is that Amiga fans feel that BP is favouring the PC scene with "unlimited" hardware power. While the Amiga Scene is limited to 060AGA. However I agree that at the present time AmigaONE and Pegasos should be in the wild-compo, but A1200/4000PPC with gfx card should be standard for the Amigacompos. Okey, there will be many Amigausers who will not be able to run the PPC prod(s), but I bet that there are many people who will not be able to run many of the PC prods because the need of Ultra Fancy gfx cards and 10GHz CPU.
But ofcourse, if there are noone that can contribute with a PPC amiga to the organizers, then fuck it.
And I guess some of the point with Amiga is to make the best out of the hardware you got,and I think
there is much more prestige in that, than having "unlimited" CPU and GFX power.
Dont get me wrong,I really dig the amazing PC demos with their nice effects, beautiful colors and awsome music. But I will allways have special place in my heart for Amiga productions ;)
Anyway, thanx for last years success, looking forward to this years event :)
Hey, how about a banner compo?

Just for fun : 16 meg was the demo size limit for wired 98 ( 8 years ago ). At this time 3d was an event in itself. Seriously how i m suppoosed to do diffuse+specular+displacement 1048*1048 maps in 16 meg ( even in 18 ) ?
